Tools he used in this order are: Long socket wrench and/or air tool 13/16 socket 13mm socket "Pry tool" Bungee cord to hang caliper Paper, newspaper, cardboard to cover work space, also certain parts have directions Gloves Brake cleaner Grease for boot/ slide pin 18mm socket PV blaster (WD-40?) Blue loctite C-clamp to compress pads back in Pliers Brake fluid if necessary Obviously you'll need: brake pads and rotors of choice Another tip I'd like to add is if you don't have another vehicle or you don't want to leave your car jacked in the air for a day while your rotors are being resurfaced, you can always buy a second set of new rotors and then the old set you can keep it in the current car and drop it off at the machine shop for resurfacing and then next time you need to change the rotors out just swap these :)

Excellent article concise and to the point, no add'l fiddle faddleing. But I Recommend opening brake fluid reservoir and placing rags around to catch overflow when you compress pistons.

This was a nice refresher. I sold all of my new vehicles to go back to the basics. Early 80's Bronco i6 & Subaru Gl. Both are very simplistic. Carburetors. Less electronics is a fantastic quality.

Before compressing the calipers you should take off the brake fluid cap incase of an overflow and it also releases the back pressure. Should put grease on the pads too, top and bottom, makes them slide easier.

Doing the front brakes and rotors on my 2004 F150. Left front seized up, fortunately at home in the garage. I bought the truck 3/2017 and apparently the brakes were done before that and they are a mess now. Front pads gone, rotors scored. No anti-drag springs installed. Brakes have been wearing out for 5 years. Needed a rubber mallet to bang the calipers loose. Waiting on a 36mm. socket and piston compressor and 3/4" to 12" adapter, already have a new 30-300 ft.lb. Torque wrench. All that's left is to remove and replace the rotors and pads. Not much rust as this is a South Carolina truck.

Unfortunately, although this video was well done, it did not show the 2007 F-150. My truck has rotors which cannot be turned or removed without a special wrench. It also requires the replacement of the rotor retaining nut which is not re-useable. There was a lot of good information here but saying it covers '04-08’ is not quite accurate. On 2007 (4.6 liter) the rotors are replaced when necessary rather than turned. Also on the slide pin, the upper pin on my truck had a rubber sleeve that fit into the recess that you show on the pin you cleaned and re-installed. Finally, when installing the boot on the slide pin on pad bracket, the rubber boot needs to be seated inside the flange before re-installing the pins in the hole. Using too much grease and forcing the pin into the hole can cause the boot to rupture. I found that could not pack the boot with grease like you did before installing the pin.

A hanging caliper will not hurt the brake line. Will people stop putting lock-tight on caliper bolts. They don’t come loose if you tighten them. You don’t need a torque wrench either.

Rex....I've done this many times with out issue but this last time there's a little problem I been living with .....the truck kinda dives (and wanders to the left) as the weight shifts on hard braking... Truck drives forward pretty true. it just i brace the steering wheel and hold it when i anticipate a panic stop. It has been aligned....What are your thoughts.....Ball Joints...stabilizers... Bad caliper.( I did change the right without changing the left). I only changed one because of a separate issue never got back around to the left tho I know that's recommended. could one be simply performing better than the other. ? not properly bleed brakes? Could I have damaged one of the brake caliper lines...? I do feel like the truck sits biased to the drivers side on level pavement...Perhaps a leveling problem with dynamic suspension ? Maybe change the sensor linkages?

OK. This is not as easy as you make it out to be. I got the the rest of the tools and worked on the right front for 3 hours just the get the old rotor off and the new one on.. I still can't get the pads and caliper back on. The left front rotor came off OK. Removing the spindle nut on both sides need the torque wrench and a helper extension. Same for installing the new rotors. 295 ft.lb. ti install the spindle nut also required an extension to the torque wrench. I have a piston compressor tool. This is going to take me all weekend using a floor jack and jack stands.
