Replace ISP ONT/ONU - NOKIA GPON SFP G-010S-A (OpenWrt SFP 7.5.3)

In this video, I will replace the ISP provided ONT/ONU with the Nokia GPON SFP G-010S-A. This SFP module is running a modified version of OpenWRT 7.5.3 as can be seen from the LuCI web interface.
Some of the background information:
ISP: VNPT (Viettel, GPON)
OLT: Alcatel Lucent (ALU)
ONT/ONU: iGate GW040-H
Media Converter: JUPLINK 2.5GbE (both SFP & RJ45 support 1G and 2.5G)
Router: NanoPi R6S (2.5GbE)

The 10GPON cat stick can be bridged through full transparent transmission. In the video, the R6S soft router is used for dial-up connection. Why do bloggers use transceivers? You can use the R86S soft router to directly plug in the 10GPON cat stick, set it in the R86S, and there are two 10G optical ports and three 2.5G electrical ports.

Do you happen to know if these are as much configurable as the HiSense LTE3415 you have reviewed? I’m asking because to get my ISP to work properly I have to set new OMCI configs and I’m not sure if embbed OpenWRT let the user change OMCI parameters like the HiSense does. Thanks

Yes, it allow you to modify most of the OMCI values. Besides, you can take a look at the LXT-010S-H which I already have a video, or it brother and sister from ODI/HSGQ.

My NOKIA GPON SFP G-010S-A shows that it is running OpenWRT 7.5.3, but when I connect to over HTTP, I don't get the LUCI Web portal, I get a GPON Home Gateway. I am assuming the fireware is just a different flash, but it shows the same data from your website post, so I am a little confused.

Why did you use the media converter instead of plugging GPON SFP into a router like you showed earlier for Hisense GPON module? That approach is much cleaner due to less hardware and less power bricks, and it also uses less power a bit, isn't it?

Main reason: I purposely use this setup to make this video. It doesn't make sense to do 2 videos with same content. Other reasons: - Usually those card is 1/10G, while the max link speed of GPON is 2.5G. if you are using those NICs, you only get max Gigabit Internet. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKrUdJyEZdSliM0 where I got > Gigabit with this build - One already have the NanoPi R5S / NanoPi R6S with 2.5GbE and they want 2.5G GPON. For sure they will use a media converter instead of sell their gear and purchase a new x86 machine for OpenWrt. - A lot of reasons, I leave it for other viewers

The NOKIA GPON SFP module is inserted on the JUPLINK Media Converter. Are you confusing between the 2 devices? If your question will the NOKIA GPON SFP module work with the TP-LINK MC220L, the answer is yes.

Media converter usually works in pairs right, but your media converter can convert fiber to ethernet and not converting etherenet to fiber and to ethernet. So how do i know if a media converter can be used alone to convert fiber to ethernet? And maybe is there a way i can contact you other than KZbin?

Your original ONT is made by Alcatel Lucent, basically a Nokia

@@examen1996 Argument 1: An isp makes you believe that you can access the internet with speed of 1 GBit/s, but in reality the isp makes it only possible with the speed up to 1GBit/s. 1 GBit/s isn't the same thing as up to 1GBit/s. 1 GBit/s means you have 1 GBit/s at least. Up to 1GBit/s means you can have 1GBit/s or less. Argument 2: Do you know anything about port forwarding? If you do, then you know that you can configure that your isp stuff and the other junk stuff go into a black hole and that the non-junk stuff are allowed to go into your network where a lot of more configuration can be made, which isn't possible with the router of your isp.

Hey Dennis, - The speed (internet plan such as download/upload) is configured on the OLT (which is managed by your ISP). However, the speed that they set usually little bit higher than the speed on the contract. For example: The contract said the Download/Upload is 500Mbps. In fact, the actual speed you may get can go up to 550 Mbps - Some ISP(s) also offer flexible plan. Let's say, during peak hour, the speed will be at 300 Mbps, but during non-peak hour, it can goes up to 1 Gbps or even higher. - Above is the speed (internet plan). There is another thing which is the Link Speed between your ONU (at your house) to the OLT ( at the ISP side). Usually, the ISP-provided ONT for internet plan below 1Gbps only has Gigabit Ethernet port. In this case, the Link Speed between the ONT & OLT is only 1 Gbps. However, if you replace it with a 2.5GbE SFP module, you have higher Link Speed, and (perhaps) have a have Internet throughput.

Hey John Actually, the GPON SFP module (the Nokia G-010S-A) is running OpenWRT. The media converter is more or less a switch.

Hi, I have yet to it with the CRS*. However, testing with the Mikrotik RB2011 gives a postive result (SFP, not SFP+ port on the CRS305).

Not really sure, you have to try. Besides the Nokia G-010S-A, you can get the HSGQ XPON stick and it should work with most of the ISP in Vietnam.
