@@johndowe7003better drill means less heat on the part. Bad drill means more friction and less cutting. Temperature in that case, has nothing to do with it, that iron has not enough carbon content to become brittle.

Right Ball joints are probably 20-30 bucks for both and some hardware is 5 bucks and maybe 1 control arm is 100 bucks. He’s the smart one

@@benjaminfisheriv9340you wear out your tires because the bushings in the control arem allow play ...no alignment in the world can fix that, also you run risk of sing steering control in severe moments avoiding crash or loss od stability on rain hydroplaning and ice... not to mention reduced braking ... But hey, I'm sure you'll use that money better in your next life...

@@1truthseeking8 Bushings are also swappable. You're making this to be an enormously bigger deal than it actually is. I would bet a significant sum that old control arm with new bushings + new ball joint is going to be exactly within spec on both camber, caster and any other significant metric. Not to mention golf 4 comes factory with swappable ball joints.

@@benjaminfisheriv9340It's a Daewoo Lanos, a Control Arm is like less than 60€, this isn't US ridiculous prices. Your labor paid hour in autoshops are already a joke being so high let alone parts. lol A ball joint shouldn't be more than 15€

У нас в России, делают так же кирнят, не много сверлят. Потом ложат шарик от подшипника. И давят гидравлическим пресом. Вылетает на ура

We never drill those out we always just use an air chisel. Typically we do it while it's still on the car

Get a cut blade and make a T or a cross. Chisel each quarter off. And then hammer out. Sometimes the drill bit gets burnt up or takes too long. Looks like you have a good one

En argentina Chevrolet era una de las fabricas que remachaban las rotulas a los brazos inferiores de la suspensión de las c10 no se si otras fabricas lo hacian pero era un trastorno para sustituir las rotulas despues se montaba tornilleria adecuada y asi no tener que desarmar una y otra ves pero ahora que lo pienso? quien tenia una remachadora de ese tamaño? solo fabricas y creo que lo hacian asi por una cuestion de costos, un remache vale menos que un tornillo de acero arandelas y tuercas autofrenantes , si , debe haber sido por eso ,saludos

Why bother you've got the whole control arm out. Replace it. You get new bushings and the ball joint. That repair can be made on car.

You can use the brazing tip to make these cherry hot then zap them off with the air chisel. You can do this on the truck.

Tbh we just change the entire arm, because when the rear bush needs replacing the new arms mostly come with a new ball joint anyway

Имел форд fusion, надо было менять шаровые опоры, купил, а там оказались заклёпки, кто мог подумать, пришлось срезать заклёпки шлифовальной машинкой, не снимая рычаги.

Better way of doing that is take a cut off wheel cut an x on all three rivets then take an air hammer and it'll just slide the top of those rivets right off then you just poke them out put in the new ball joint

Maybe not exactly, but probably during the manufacture, the calculation was for the entire wear of the lever in order to change it as an assembly

Easier and likely cheaper to swap the entire control arm. Drilling these take an absolute eternity, in my opinion using an angle grinder works best. Hard part is when half the rivet gets stuck to the control arm!!

Все это проще делается болгаркой запиливается крест на заклепки потом Так же зубилом сбивается заклепка мягкая а вот работа со снятием рычага доя того чтоб ремонт был дороже

Can also use a part of ball bearing. Накернил вместо сверла ложешь стальной щарик от подшипника меньшего размера и ложи на пресс и дави его. Саерлить не надо меньще пыли и быстрее. This trick works very good for me

Uhhh. Some Toyotas you mean. On others they designed them to be replaced with the control arm and were astronomically expensive for a long time. Mk iv supras, soarers and Lexus SC300/400 all share the same chassis and at a time Lexus dealers sold the rear pair for almost $1200 and Toyota would sell you the same for about half the cost. The front was cheaper but still way overpriced. Even with the lower price points you can get them at these days it's still well worth it to modify the oem arms to take replaceable ball joints if not going to aftermarket arms.
