3:55 By not taking off the caliper first, or by not supporting the weight of the spindle, is it likely that the brake line shown may rip out? That line took a big yank at 3:55, and I'm curious to see if I should get some bungee cord or something to catch it during the swap. 2:39 & 7:40 Does the Upper Ball Joint not have a castle nut and cotter pin on the '06? My truck is an '05 so I can't confirm this myself. Thanks for the video! It's not easy to find detailed videos for our third generation Dakotas theses days.

Yes, he probably should have secured the spindle first.

This style of strut, along with a couple of the tips in this video make my strut and control arm replacement seem way more approachable. I've been quoted $1,800+ when I know that even the best quality parts are $700. For something that will take me a Saturday and a 6 pack, I'm not paying the $300 an hour for labor or whatever that comes out to. I know it won't take one professional even 4 hours to install those $700 parts. But they deliberately use specific suppliers that drive the part cost through the roof. So here I am about to essentially rebuild my suspension when the most involved repair I've done has been a water pump.

I hope you had good luck with your suspension project. LOL... Thank you so much for watching our channel?

Will this be the same procedure for 4x4
@sensenshocksstruts74997 жыл бұрын
The rear shocks would be the same, but the front Speedy Struts are a different number: 9213-0058. Hopefully we can find a Dakota 4WD to do a video on soon!

It's exactly the same, this video actually helped me replace my upper control arms as well lol.

@@alhenry92 Not quite the same on the 4x4. CV axle creates a lot more clearance issues.

The manufacturer recommends using a new bolt for the lower knuckle which should be torqued to 81 ft/lbs.

At 4:03 in the video, you say "go ahead and tap the bottom bolt back." That is a bit inaccurate. I have banged on that bolt with a heavy hammer, but it does not move back. I have already damaged the end of the bolt and it has not moved at all. It is free where there is metal to metal contact, but there seems to be a rubber bushing in the center that is keeping that bolt from going anywhere. I can put a socket on the head of that bolt and I can turn it a quarter of a turn, but it just turns the bushing, and then when I let go, it just springs back. How do I get that bolt to release the bushing?
@92clintonr5 жыл бұрын
I realize I'm a month late but I just dealt with what you described today. I beat on it, pried, tried to turn with a breaker bar, put a torch on it, sprayed penetrating lube and after everything I just put my impact on the head of the bolt and after alternating back and forth a few times it was actually able to break it free. After it broke free it still took some "persuasion" but I was able to work the bolt out. I also had to grind down the end of the bolt after mushrooming the head of it like you said from striking it so hard.

Also, is there a way to switch from struts to shocks?
@petes.66094 жыл бұрын
Can I do this same job without impact air tools? I just have hand tools,maybe if I greased & lubed everything up an hour before I install the Coilovers you think the nuts will be loose enough to Break loose with hand tools? I gotta do this today I'd really appreciate your expertise, thanks!

@Peace Peaceful Hello there,yes alot of people have posted video's about this particular problem with the bolt rusting solid to the inner sleeve of the bushing. So I have searched and found a vlogger who used a tool called a lower ball joint press to press out the rusted bolt from the bushing sleeve,the ball joint press has tremendous pressure and it may take a few tries but it will press the bolt loose.I will get back to you shortly,and yes I have tried this with success.
@hesquiahtson39774 жыл бұрын
@Peace Peaceful check out a video called......seized bolt in a bushing will this work? this vid should give you a very good idea how this works using a ball joint press to remove a rusted bolt from the lower strut mount,it works perfect.
