Last time I drove my daily driver Jaguar XJ6 I heard a noice from the front, a wheel bearing. I parked the car and ordered a bearing right away. Here is a detailed video on replacing a failed wheel bearing on my daily driver XJ6.

Had a laugh when you said "Im thinking was it this side I heard the noise from"! When you drive these old things part of the process is constantly listening to any new noises. There is always something😄

An apparently simple and straightforward job that actually involves a good deal of skill and judgement. That clearly improves with experience.

I did some modifications and repairs to my Sovereign XJ40 and it has greatly improve the fuel economy. Here is a list: Electric cooling fan, removing the sls pump and diff output bearings. My average fuel economy before was: 13.5 l/100km and now it is: 12.0 l/100km. This is with the AC on and 75% city, 25% road use. I'm very happy with the result!

Great! I also changed a wheel bearing and a driveshaft of my X-type the previous week. The season to take care of undercarriage came.

Rear wheel bearings are awful to change! You should do yours (make a new video and show us how it’s done ;) )

Yeah those were not fun! Even worse, the noise I had was from the diff output bearings, not the wheel bearings. So I did the awful job for no reason.

Side cutters make it easier to remove split pins (IMHO), wooo I am sorry but it is way easier to remove the caliper then the hub WITH the rotor. Once again IMHO you always do both sides at the same time. Handy tip always put the bearing race in the freezer for as many hours as you can that way they go in easier.

It's funny how these revived older cars repay your care and attention by presenting the next little gripe or grumble for you to sort out. I noticed you didn't actually identify which of the 2 bearings was dry or worn... I'm presuming the rear one ? It clearly only had the minimum of ancient grease remaining so it seems that topping up the hub via the grease nipple really doesn't get fresh grease to the back of the hub... perhaps you just need to add a heck of a lot to force it right back ? If you take the other side apart maybe you can reach a conclusion, it could be worth checking ? Oh yes and finally... surely there's no actual point in greasing up the stub axle ? Nothing is supposed to spin or is likely to stick...

I've owned 2 manual gearbox XJ6's and both covered 190K miles. On both I had the brake judder and on a long run of 200 miles high speed motorway driving for work, sometimes the car would pull to the side under braking. The problem seemed to be that whilst the pistons in the calliper did move freely, on a really long motorway run one piston would get hot and seize when the brake was applied and not retract until the brake cooled (Possibly due to high mileage brake dust). Unfortunately over time without correction I needed calliper replacements as the pistons seize solid and couldn't be freed.

That's wat happens wen the brake hoses swell up and restrict the flow of brake fluid it doesnt allows the brake caliper to open properly and allows the pads to drag all that heat adds up over a 100 plus miles

No hitting! With the size of your stable (and the cost of spares for that particular marque) the small investment in a hydraulic bench press will pay dividends in the repair of bearings, universal and CV joints, etc.
@LivingWithAClassic

I do have a press however most people don’t. These front bearing can be replaced like this with no issues. However with the rears you do need a press. I want to show what can easy be done at home

Buy a cheap bearing installer as you can jam the old race in there and then you'll destroy the new race trying to get it out. Also you can shatter small parts off of the old race and get eye damage.
