Replacing a Hood Star on a 1986 Mercedes

I have a 1985 300D (a W123) and the star and mechanism are the same apparently as your W124. Thank you for having your dad help you and hold camera, etc., and give us close-ups, ESPECIALLY while you went up and under with the pliers to turn the "claws" or "flanges" 90 degrees to come off of their perches and hold to the bonnet. Nice to see both removal and installation. I myself had just received a new star from online, and I didn't know how to do it. Your video was "just what the doctor ordered". Very well done, thank you.

Thank you thank you thank you. Almost every “hood star emblem replacement” video is for the newer emblem, the fastening mechanism of which is different and simpler than the old star. Your video was the only one I found that was clear. (My 300 CD is on the 123 chassis. 1979. 986,000 mi.). Thank you.

Dear Mark, this was amazing and so helpful unlike every other video. My only problem is I could not twist the new emblem in totally straight. The flanges are cockeyed and not straight as the spring released before I got it in correct position. It may be that you have to put the emblem in backwards to allow it to fully turn. I screwed up and now can’t undo it.

Like all the others...clean the hood first before you apply the Star ornament. 😢
