I have just bought two seagull outboards from a scrap yard . one is like the one in this video and my other one is a 1975 diver century outboard . I know nothing about these outboard's and I want to restore them both and get them running again .Hence a little research regarding the 1975 seagull. 44 years old and has good compression and in good condition for it's age. So these video's you have made are very informative and like how you explain everything enough even for a total novice like myself to under stand . enjoyed watching your video's regarding the seagull outboard motor's.

Great video, just what wanted to know, water flow from head has stopped. I blew out the artery’s with a 80 psi compressor and they look nice and clear. Moving on to the impeller now. It’s a 1955 model 40.

Problem found, casting snapped off right across the middle screw . Water cannot pass through and discharged out to sea again. Just need to remove stubborn drive shaft from bottom gearbox now.

not Lesley - but Ken - I replaced those plain slot screw heads for the water pump access - with ALLEN SCREWS, to difficult at Times to get a screwdriver in there AND be able to turn it :)

I looked at the water pump rotor...it was in 2 bits...1/4 of it was missing...looked down the prop shaft bit..could not see the missing bit anywhere...any ideas where it would have went...and I had a quick look for the notch on the driveshaft where the rotor goes,could not see it,also blew air down the water flow to see if I could see any air coming out of the water..but a no show...I wondering if it is still blocked somewhere....it was a foot pump I used.

Hi matey, another help for Got a SC 4.5hp going but couldn’t get water flow. I had removed head and cleaned out waterways and I can inject water through outlet toco e out the bottom. Checked rotor and thought it was upside down but appears to be correct. Not sure why water flow is not great but perhaps rotor is worn. What sort of gap around rotor should I expect? Thanks. Andy

Are you running it in a barrel with the propeller on?

Coastal Works Yes absolutely, leg is plenty deep enough. Engine is not running great but water not flowing very well at all. Having seen another of your videos I think the bottom of the block and top of tube are probably the culprit as I didn’t clean these. Water from hose goes through but there is a restriction. I will take apart again and check. I would say there is about 2-3mm gap around rotor but that seems ok to me. All good practice lol. Thanks. Andy

Take the propeller off when running it in the barrell that will give a true reading of water flow and how well it's running. With the prop on it creates a back wash so the engine is fighting with itself. The back wash also interferes with the water uptake from the gearbox . It may very well have a different problem but worth a try

Have clean the head, down tubes, channels all clear, rotor looks good, but still willnt pump water. Any ideas?

Double check tube going into base of the block and is tightened, also check same tube that its seated in its correct hole

A lot of seagulls won't pump water at idle, because it's a rigid rotor. It's also a narrow inlet so prop wash in a barrel can leave it sucking air. Try running it on a boat or take the prop off in the barrel. Otherwise you may have a clogged water jacket. Great video 👍

Did you do the video of stripping the gearbox down completely. I can't get my pinion gear out but it looks like there is a split pin holding the pinion gear and the drive shaft together as my drive shaft will not come out the gearbox

I have a Seagull TC 102 - unused for over 40 years - with Amal two jet Carb. The throttle Valve piston is stuck but absolutely clean. Any ideas how this can be freed up ? thanks

Clean down slide and inside carb body with very fine sandpaper

I'v removed the head, no block cleaned the copper pipe in the exaust checked the lower and upper housings ends, there is no block as i can pour water down the head water outlet i replaced the impeller and the engin will not pump any water at any speed. any ideas?

+Thomas Cannon ill have a video on that part in the next week or so . Remove split pin , washer,prop spring . oil the prop shaft and slide off propeller. A few gentle taps of a wooden mallet may be needed to remove the prop from the shaft . Hopefully this helps

My seagull's rotor is spinning under water.. Got no water coming from the cylinder.. After trying to clean the airways with compressed air, i saw that the water pump impeller is spinning with compressed air while the engine is shut off.. Broken water pump impeller? Oh bollocks.

You should not be able to see the impeller if tge motor is complete
