Thanks a million, you made it so simple to follow, I now fixed my 404 as well as my husband's when he came home for R&R. I paid $25 for my batteries. I didn't want a fancy internet ready one and I already have all the accessories for our 404's that I didn't want to buy another system. You give Utube a good name.

Great video, it worked for me. One thing you did not talk about that people should also know. After you take out all four of the little screws and you start pulling the back panel off, be carful. Only one side pulls up. On that side of the panel you will notice that there are two little posts that are attached to the panel itself.

It worked like a charm, thanks, I had it just sitting in my desk and Google the issue and ran across this vid. Got the battery for $14.00 just like you and I am back in action. I went thru hell trying to get Archos do replace it, they have the worst customer service ever.

I'm sorry, I am not too sure. I did check eBay, and saw they were quite expensive. I would rather just buy a newer archos at this point. Sorry to hear that.

They may, I purchased mine from eBay relatively cheap. But it is highly possible they would, call them or check their online store.

Oh that sucks, maybe it was not the issue with the battery, more possibly you fried your motherboard? I really feel bad for you, but get a new one! I really want the 605, or if possible the 704. Good luck!

I did everything you said, and checked the battery to investigate any problems because every time we charge it, it never turns on or charges. whats wrong with it? reply Asap please .

I´ve got some problems with seperating the battery of, because it is glued with two little strips (in the size of my thumbnail) to my archos 404. It´s older and therefore the accu was very tight connected with it, so one should be very careful removing it. I took as a help-tool a screwdriver which i used to seperate the accu from the archos bit after bit (very, very carefully). Before this was possible, I needed to fold up the part where the harddisk is located. And: It was necessary to remember the position of the red and black cables from the accu. But I don´t know if this is the best way, so , no guarantee...only my experience.

dude do you know where i can get a new screen for a 404?? my friend stepped on the screen and broke it and its basically been an external hd since

The other side does not have the same set up. If you try to pry the other side up, you will break tiny little slide holders. To remove this other side, simple slide the back panel outward in the opposite direction of the side with those posts that I spoke of. This will unhook it from that side. If you don’t do this you will break those little clips as I did. In this video you can kind of see that the two sides are different. Good Luck.

The little tiny slide holders almost broke as I tried to open the backside of the case. I got confused by the 4 screws on both sides, but actually only 2 screws hold the case together. I´ve got Luck.

aww man that sucks oh well guess ill just keep using it as an external hd. I wont buy another archos after the horrible customer support. They stopped making it and removed it and refused to give me any aid or tell me where i could get it repaired. I bought a zune instead (better battery life and storage for cheaper if only i could run avi files :-(
