Replacing Cylinder Head Gasket - 2002 Dodge Caravan 3.3 - P3

This is the third in a series of four videos where I show the steps I took to replace the head gaskets in a 2002 Dodge Caravan with a 3.3 engine. I ended up replacing both of the heads. I tried to show all of the steps from disassembly through cleaning and reassembly.

Just a note: These engines generally don't have exhaust manifold gaskets. You can put one in but apparently, it's not needed..

Yeah I ended up finding that out. I can tell you it seemed quieter with the gaskets. Might have been my imagination though. Van is gone now, but still look back on this project fondly.

cor scraper old gaskets material the use or formika has been very good to do that job

I ended up buying new heads. Well refurbished heads, but I replaced the originals. I talked about that in the second video in the series. To have them checked would have cost almost as much as the new heads and it saved me a ton of time.

No sorry I failed to mention the torque for the rocker arm assembly. If I recall it was 17lbs but I'd Google it to be sure.

how clean does the intake manifold gasket need to be mine is black (the lower half of it looks like it was painted) - should it be shiny metal or just clean?( the gasket set I got didn't have one in it )

do you happen to remember the torque numbers for the lifters, and also the head bolts?

The head bolts were torqued in four steps - 45-65 & 65 again - then a 1/4 turn more, which takes them to about 90 ft lbs. I can't recall the torque on the lifter assembly. But you can find it on web. Hope that helps.

the torque for the lifters is about 17 in pounds

Don't ever use a wire wheel. You would be amazed where you can find a wire bristle. Re-work is not cheap.

Yeah you're probably right on that one. Especially if it's a cheaply made one. Some of the better ones are less risk - but I get your point.

what was the tighting pattern as far as bolt order

I really don't remember. I just Googled it and found it in multiple places. I checked a few to make sure it as consistent and when with that.
