I am an amateur; only tying to find out where and how to connect the fuel line at the engine end, as I keep smelling petrol when it is parked. Way below your skills, but I watched this anyway as it is such an excellent, well presented, mature and sensible video. And no awful music to distract. Brilliant. If my skills do evolve I feel in safe hands and comfortable in watching any other videos of yours that might be relevant to my issues. Bloody excellent. Thank you. I will now keep googling for the "simple" job. I had hoped the leak might just be a split where the hose goes a nipple or somesuch in the engine, so had envisaged just pulling off the hose, cutting off the split bit, and hopefully still have enough to reconnect it to the engine. IF the plastic clips you mention are at the engine end as well as the filter end then you've already saved me some grief!. !

I’m an amateur too, just used to work for a company which made mechanics overalls and embroidered my name on them! Thank you for your positive feedback, much appreciated, glad you found the content interesting / helpful. Sorry, I don’t have any knowledge on the engine bay connection you looking for, and mine is away for winter storage. Hope you can find the detail you are looking for. Another MX-5 video which may be timely/topical for you is the Winter maintenance of the battery: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXzFi4WHodadq9Esi=chELtBrbVKB3YUzJ All the best with your project!

Thankyou. I watched 2 videos before attempting. Both didn't really touch on the hose connections. At 11:30 you explained them well. I squeezed the white collar bits at the mouth of the hose and with a bit of force the hoses came off. left the white parts on though, I had to Philips head those off while having a petrol shower. Lost about 2l on my hair, face and back.

I just checked fuel pressure and used the new fuel filter to get a round the special fittings so I could use hose and clamps. I also used the shipping cap as a tool to remove the fitting. I just cut off the end, split it down the middle, slipped it on and pushed it up- worked excellent.

Nice idea with the shipping cap!

This video simply serves to remind me of the reason I get all this stuff done by my mechanic. I honestly couldn’t be arsed with all this faffing about, when my mechanic can do it in three minutes flat during regular service.

Excellent video! Love your details! These cars are old and used so before buying the release wrench I'd better first check my 03 SE 6-speed to see if I need it. Thanks and N-joy the ride!

Hello, One question about the fuel lines. I also got a mk2.5 and want to swap the fuel filter. I also ordered new fuel line clips which I can directly put on the new fuel filter. Can the fuel lines be disconnected without the need of this special tool simply by pressing the line together to release the line from the grey clip? Best regards
@drivingvideos42383 жыл бұрын
Hi, I’ve seen a few videos up on-line which seem to suggest you can, but wasn’t clear to me how. You can pry the legs of the old grey clips out carefully with a small screw driver, as long as you then replace with new ones. The 5/16” quick release tool does make the job much easier….. ….as long as it fits on the filter you have. Good luck with it!

Great video and explanation. Is the fuel tank recommended to be close to empty before proceeding? Also, is the quick connect tool required for reassembly? Shouldn't the connector just slide on and lock into place without the tool?
@drivingvideos42383 жыл бұрын
I think it’s safest to time the job when the tank is empty, we still collected over 5 litres of petrol even when it was showing “empty”. I believe there is some workshop manual technique for reducing fuel flow while changing, clearly a professional garage will just do the job whenever the car arrives, but I don’t know what that procedure is. There are a couple of links in the description to videos showing just how much petrol can leak out, so approach with care and have a suitable petrol catch can ready. As you say, you don’t actually need to use the quick release tool during reassembly, the grey clips within the end of the fuel line do just push on by hand and ‘click’ once over the securing lip. All the best with it!

I didn’t actually remove the Fuse, started by disconnecting battery and worked through from there.
@kCI2513 жыл бұрын
If you pull the fuel injector fuse, no fuel will be sprayed. You need to pull the fuel PUMP fuse.
@drivingvideos42383 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I didn’t actually pull any fuses in the end, just followed the Haynes Manual instructions and just disconnected the battery negative lead.
@autumnscardina64482 жыл бұрын
My manual recommends to release the fuel pressure by disconnecting the fuel pump relay and starting the car and run it until it stalls. The relay is a six pin connector located under the steering wheel close to the accelerator pedal.
