I learned the hard way but when replacing the tires, buy inner tubes and put'em inside. That way, if you ever drive over a nail, glass, whatever, it's no big deal. Just patch the inner tube, re-inflate and you're good for the go. My rear tires are about the same size but I have four bolts for each wheel to remove. No keyhole. I also had to replace the whole steering box and shaft assembly and replace the seat with a new one. It was hard finding obsolete parts, especially the steering box and shaft. I have the old Sears DGT 6000 27 HP 48" cut tractor. Everything is perfect on it. Just have to replace worn out parts when they go. I like keeping stuff out of the landfill whenever possible. Anyways a new rig would run into the thousands so why not keep fixing the old especially when you have many dedicated attachments. Thanks for sharing this video guys.

We were going to do the inner tubes but when we found the tires already mounted and full of air we figured why not wait until they needed tubes to install them for the first time. Maybe if we are real lucky we won't ever need them, ha ha. I love keeping the old tractor running. Like you said its cheaper and it helps keep the landfill cleaner. I have an old 1966 wheel horse that my dad bought when I was 4. By far my favorite possession. Needs lots of work and there will be videos coming on the restore when time permits. There is a guy named Norm who is a fellow KZbinr. He is dedicated to saving old garden tractors of all kinds. He sells all kinds of parts and if I am not mistaken he even has designed and sells parts that are hard to find or not available. Great guy. Here is the link to his KZbin channel. Wow, I had to look up wheel horse because I never saw one before. It really looks alike a true workhorse. Back then is when things were built to last practically forever. Yeah they were built tough back then. Wheel Horse was made in South Bend Indiana, just south of the small town I grew up in in Michigan. You can find them for sale and they can still bring a good price if they are good condition. One day when we are settled into our homestead I plan to buy a couple more and restore them just because they are cool old tractors and I love them. I also want an old 8N Ford tractor. Love the way they look and they are a big part of our history of this country. You will find I want a lot of stuff, ha ha. I like the old Farmall tractors as well. Terry

If you put a socket on the axle bolt your puller won't slip off. I would also suggest removing the rust on the axle and put on anti seize.

American Style is called SAE - Society of Automotive Engineers. It helps to put Gray Loctite ANTI-SEIZE on the hole in the wheel and on the shaft

Yeah I knew SAE it just did not come to mind at the moment, lol. Old timers may be coming after me soon, ha ha. I told Brian it would be best to have anti seize but we did not have any so we just went ahead and mounted them. They go on extra easy but the rust makes I a bear to get them to move when taking them off. Terry

Good job getting the wheel and tire off. You can put some antiseize on the shaft when you reassemble to make it come off easier next time. Always be careful when beating on the rim to get it off or the clip in the transmission can come off and the axle shaft will come out with it. Just a little info. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Steve! We came across those with rims and already full of air and just could not pass up the deal. Glad the axle did not come out, lol! I was actually concerned about damaging the transmission. They do not make them as tough as they used to. The tires had a little over 24 pounds of air in them. Made for a very rough ride till we dropped it to a little over 10 pounds. Terry

Drill a recess starter divot in the head of the bolt to keep your puller from ‘wandering’.

I was thinking of putting a slightly bigger tire on my craftsmen mower to get a little more clearance....like one inch. Any advice is appreciated.

If you go up on the back you likely need to go up on the front as well or your deck will be angled down hill to the grass. You may be able to adjust the deck to level it back out. Before any changes maybe park it on a good flat surface and measure the ground clearance at both the front and rear of the deck. I would think they would be equal. Either way then you will have something to go by to get the same deck set up in relation to the existing orientation in relation to the ground. Additionally you may already be aware that if you lift the mower you need to set the deck to a lower setting on the mower to get the same actual length of grass. In other words a 3” setting with your current tires will be a 4” setting with a 1” lifted mower. Hope this all makes sense 😁. Good luck! Terry

You can't hardly pass up a deal like that. About 4 years ago I owned an old 9 N Ford tractor and replaced both front tires for $27.00 a piece they were 19" wheels and both back tires were 28" for $258.00 a piece. The tractor was a 1941 pre WW2 machine. Not sure why it had such giant wheels. Wish now I would've kept. Take care Terry and Brian. 👍

I have the same riding mower. Got it cheap and still works after 4 years. Might not be the prettiest but still cuts great, the only problem is i cant find the model number on it the sticker was ripped off. Does yours still have the information on it

Gotta say this tractor is a beast. These newer tractors have so much efficiency built into them and safety features that they are weak at best. The tag reads as follows. I've got the exact same tire and set up only my "ex" left it to the weather and now I can't get the tire off. I purchase a wheel puller from Amazon, 17 bucks. I think it's for pulleys, has different size bolts but no nuts. The center piece can be flat or a point. The point has messed up the threads so now I need to get a tap and 2 nuts when I ride my bicycle to town 15 miles away. When you used the chisel did you put it on the edge or on the rim, like where the weld is? Thanks, this sob isn't moving and I need advise.

Yes we did hit the wheel and it actually went part way through in a few places. If you plan to use the wheel again you may want to try something different. Terry

Great option. It’s long gone now. Honestly I wanted to use anti seize but did not have any. Needed to get it rolling because we were swamped with work. I since picked up a Husqvarna with hydro that runs great for $200!!! That old Craftsman had seen its better days. The motor started running very rough. The spindles were both worn to the point of squealing. Most of the safety stuff was failing. Leaked oil bad. It was not safe any more and was gonna cost a good bit to fix. Gotta say when it ran I used it like a bush hog and it never hesitated to chump things up lol. Thanks for watching!! Terry

Take your bolts and drill a center pivot that will keep your tool from slipping the end of it will have a place it will set in and not slip

I got two mowers that need all four tires. Which will be some money. I have put thought in this to buy all new tread or all tread on rims new. I don't know where you are getting them prices for back tires at Lowes at 50 some each. As of June 2020 the Arnold tire which is all I see they sell is 90 bucks each. I was there today looking. Fronts are 40 bucks each more less. I have not decided what to do yet in my tire issue. As for you I wonder if that tire is the Arnold or Tractor supply plus tires they sell called lawn what ever it's called. Any event I do have a issue that stalls me till I fig out. Because I do not want to waste money on wrong style tire. The Arnold at Lowes comes with the kit/ bushings more so spacers. I see the back rim in center is round circle, but it has two slits going from front to back inside the center hole. So I assume in this that would be the keys that slide in the slit. I see no key that fell out of yours when tire was removed. I see some of these rims the center is round and some is like yours which is what I see at Lowes. I have not yet looked at my mower just the rim and tire at Lowes. Mower is a older Yardsman ( MTD ). So, I guess the question is this is a Universal tire. But I see some center rim holes round and some like yours on mowers. The one at Lowes I seen is a center like yours. What is the two slits for on the one I see at Lowes?

Sorry for the late responce. Lowes did go up to $89 and some change. That is crazy high inflation! I guess the slot is a keyway for a metal share pin but I am not sure about that. Terry

Correction to my reply above. I understand a bit more now that I have fully did tires. The square pattern vs round for rims and trans shaft is what I mean. I guess some just differ.Mine had no key but shaft was not round on end. I also stand corrected. I may have looked at rims at Lowes wrong. The rim at another Lowes I went to is in fact not complete round in center. It is the square type or what ever for back tires. I ended up getting all 4 for Yard Machines mower. Two front two back. At the tune of grand total $274.00. Which was enough for me. So at least for this mower I got lucky and no issues as some in reviews had on this kit. Does need a longer bushing which kit has. Went on fine and all is nice. What I did find a pain is the grease fittings. They are in a spot and made in a way that getting a standard grease gun fitting on is just not happening.I had to order a 90 degree grease fitting.

Dear Terry, If you are going to buy yourself a new tractor just for mowing, might you not be better off getting a mulching &/a grass cutting implement for your Kubota instead??? Now that you've spent 110 dollars or so plus puller, this is going to get expensive, will it not? Kind regards.

Hey Mr. Tools! The thing is the Kubota will make some tracks in the yard where as a mower will cause very little damage. Also we plan to bag and use a lot of our grass clippings and a lawn mower with bagger is far cheaper than the mower and bagger for the Kubota. Saves hours on the Kubota as well which is much more expensive to maintain.In a long run so it will be cheaper to have a separate good quality mower with bagger. A mid mount mower and bagger for the Kubota is over $6000. Crazy expensive. We think these things out, ha ha. Terry
