A ceramic tile under your stove will give you some protection against fire. Vinyl likely has a low melting point and even before getting high enough to melt, it would likely off-gas some toxic stuff. Firebricks for metalsworking are perfect for inder the stove and also for protection along the sides. The link has a brick less than an inch thick. These things come in many sizes if this size doesn't work. So glad you fixed it so the door can open. Much safer and way cooler. Love the adjustable feet you designed.

Interesting video Scott. Great insights gained with the research for replacement parts etc. The additional heat with cooking kind of comes with propane cooking, huh? (Its currently 102 in the shade here in Ohio & the thought of simply boiling water on our stove, adding any heat in our motorhome is enough to drive me mad😵) Im curious if you could find a square stainless steel bain marie or flat cookie sheet at a restaurant supply that would fit under the stove perfectly? Another thought I have is, the stove is cast iron and could become very hot itself while cooking. You may want to consider what you might use to cover the stove so you wont inadvertently burn yourself. Perhaps a cover would help ease your distaste for the esthectic of it. Not that your a klutz, It is a small space 😜

I was thinking, if you drilled shallow holes in the wood it sits on for those legs to sit in, then the stove would be safely held when driving and not rattling? Also perhaps find someone with a jig saw that can make curved corners on the plate form and the little wall above. If it was me, I’d see myself banging that upper corner everyday, but I’m klutzy. Also could you put it on a swivel platform so you can swing the stove outside when you? That would be awesome and convenient for cooking. I love using the ReStore for building supplies. You can get a single tile there, maybe even a few decorative ones.

Despite this episode being two years old, I have an idea about a fire-proof backsplash. How about 4 unglazed Mexican outdoor floor tiles glued to a piece of plywood backing? You can buy a box of 10 or 12 very cheaply (around $25 a box). Years ago I bought unglazed Mexican floor tiles from Home Depot and used four of them at a time as a pizza stone in my gas range. They conduct heat evenly when I cook a pizza directly on the tiles and when I bake or roast dishes at 450 degrees. With constant use of my oven, the tiles usually last over a year before any of them start to crack under the heat. I found it's a lot cheaper to replace the tiles every couple of years than to buy a costly pizza stone which also crack under the heat. I found this idea from researching for a more economical alternative for a pizza stone and found several online folks who suggested the unglazed tiles as a cheap fix. It sure has been: $25/box vs. a $200 pizza stone. Yours as a backsplash should last much, much longer cause they would not be coming into direct contact with a heat source like mine are as a pizza stone. You could also use some of the tiles as a base under the stove legs instead of the aluminum foil you're using now. The tiles clean up nicely with Krud Kutter or 409.

Congratulation to the new stove. Men need new toys from time to time and if the old one caused problems, maybe a good idwa to replace also for safety reasons. Two design ideas for the new setup. One, maybe cut the upper right corner of the new backsplash a bit round, so it cannot hurt you when you get in and out the van. Two, maybe you can drill two holes for longer bolts through the upper surface of the Stove and the wooden board below and use them as a fixation for the stove to fix it in 9lace while cooking and driving? Have a great evening greetings from Germany.

@StaticCamperVan3 жыл бұрын
I’ve been wondering the same exact thing. But not because of the BTU output. I like the extra heat. It seems to work better with my carbon steel skillet. My issue is the burner ring is a little large. The burner would match my kettle better without the outside ring.
@monkeyb18203 жыл бұрын
this looks like a real, restaurant quality cook top. It looks like you could replace that hose and control valve (but maybe that would cost as much as the stove). It's hard to tell how much clearance you have between the gas burner and the wood. At first I thought you were going to drill 4 holes through the wood. If you put a washer and nut above and below the wood, it's still adjustable, fastened firmly onto the wood, and sits a bit lower. So that setup would be nut-washer-wood-washer-nut. And you can adjust the ones above and below to tighten down on the wood. But the current setup looks good.
