Replacing my tractor's broken PTO shaft.

A rookie mistake resulted in a snapped Power Take Off shaft on my rusty old farm tractor. Lucky for me the one on my parts tractor was still intact! In this video I go through the steps required to replace the part and explain what what caused to break and what I should have done to prevent it. The tractor involved is a 1970's White Field Boss 2-60, made by FIAT. Enjoy!

The lift arms being to long is a safety issue. BY moving your impliments to far to the rear you destabilize your front wheels by making the weight on them less. And yes it is possible in some situations to flip your tractor over. Cutting your shaft is easy and you can find a lot KZbin videos on how to do it.

So basically, you forgot to shorten the pto shaft. It got in a bind and bang.

Dein Traktor ist ein Fiat 640. In Europa haben diese Traktoren keine Ölpumpe an dieser Stelle Montiert. Amerikanische Brasilien Ausführung. Die neue Welle ist aus einem UTB Rumänien Typ 445. Lizens Fiat. Die Ersatzteile für Fiat sind nicht teuer. Ich hätte neue Kugellager und neue Dichtungen genommen. Kugellager und Wellen Dichtung sind DIN Norm Teile. Nicht teuer. Und die Papier Dichtung kann man selbst schneiden. Oder kaufen. Ist nicht teuer. Das wichtigste ist den Schalt Hebel auf Motor EIN zu schalten. Es könnte das Zahnrad der Welle ins Getriebe gefallen sein. Dann ist der Frontlader und die Zapfwelle ohne Funktion. Zahnrad, Muffe für Schalthebel im Getriebe.

You have probably been told a thousand times already but the two positions are position control and draft control. And most people on KZbin do not describe draft control correctly. They think it's for depth control witch it is NOT!

You need to cut that pto shaft shorter, then all your problems solved. If you dont it will happen again. You should be able to raise it up all the way without binding.

My White 2-60 does not have the hydraulic pump mounted above the PTO shaft like yours does. That's interesting.

I’m not familiar enough to know if that’s common. It’s sort of annoying to have the PTO running all the time. It works though, so I don’t question it!

Thanks for the video. My buddy just snapped his PTO shaft off on his 930 Case tractor. He left the sickle mower's PTO hooked up all winter and the mice built a nest in the implements PTO, so the shaft wouldn't slide back and forth and when he went to make a turn, it broke the PTO shaft clean off, just like yours.

PTO shaft could have bottomed out causing this also.

You just needed to saw a little length off the pto shaft tube. Owner's manual of everything should explain this.
