Wow yeah I’m buying this. Had to move my pro safe S3300-24 to my office. 1 day in and I was taking it apart to plug in a different fan. I’ll get this.

why don't you simply remove the fans?

Just a FYI i have the same switch i used to use 24/7 for about a decade except it was sold as passive J9028B, exact same internals except no pins on the fan header and square mesh instead of a fan cutout. Recently reused it to hook up my 1gbit stuff since i've moved to 10gbe a few yrs ago but don't want to waste ports, quite warm so i just cut out a 120mm fan hole on top and soldered the wires to the pads where the header would have gone if they sold it as an A model, resistor reduced to about 600rpm and cold as ice now. You could tell they knew this unit didn't need much cooling by the low quality fan they used, i honestly had about 12 devices daily on this thing and it never went funny with no cooling at all lol.

so after two years now... does your switch still... switch?

The cooler you can keep your equipment the longer it wil last. This is especially true for electrolytics.

however the temperature will depend on the level of use, and as my network isnt exactly ever truly saturated, its not exactly running hot like datacenter switches are.

I thought the air was meant to go in to cool it rather than air coming out?

I would have just drilled slightly bigger holes to fit the pc screws in just wanna clean the chassis out afterward though

Sure exhaust is to the heatfans? Normally you suck the air away from the case.

either way, you get airflow inside the case, that switch has been used 24/7 since the publishing of that video and there have been no problems.

It this the 12V model? Can you just wire 2 pins (+/-) and run the fan full rpm. I am shopping around for a 2-pin, no PWM setup for a NVR recorder. The 3-pin model they sell can be used full rpm with just two wire as I read. The NVRS run 24/7 and every so often have to change out the fans ( I buy generic to say and dont last as long) I think Noctua is a good brand (you pay more but you get what you pay for). Take your tk to the auto dealer - pay more but they fix it right!. Thanks, good video!

but it has a much lower CFM too, monitor the temperature, as you may have a cooling deficiency. A normal fan has an average of 15CFM, the Noctua has 5.5CFM

Yes, then again the switch is used at maybe 1/10th of its capacity in its current role unlike it would usually be used in a datacenter, so its unlikely to become an issue.

Hey man just wanted to ask if you ever found a solution to the fault light on the pro curve. I by pure luck got a pro curve for free but its damn loud and when I replaced the stock fans with noctuas the fault light kept blinking. btw thank you for the cool 3d print part, gonna print that soon!

I have a solution for it but but never actually got around actually implementing it as the switch is in use.

Could you please let me know what is the solution to to get fan led to work?@@Purkkaviritys

@@mailman1980 I'm pretty sure the switch reads the RPM of the fan via PWM and since the new fan is not reporting the way the switch firmaware is expecting or at all, it gets upset and error light comes on, reading the pwm from the noctua fan and then feedin it back into the motherboard in the format it expects would fix the issue and still retain the capability to show error when the new fan fails.

I've used those rubber things before and also were getting in the way - I just cut the ends and problem gone :)

I admire creative people, but instead of spending hours of designing and 3d printing all kinds of adaptors, a DRILL would have done the trick in like 20 seconds.... Just make the damn hole a little bit bigger so the Noctua crews would fit.... pfffff

Good grief this is a lesson on how to massively over complicate a 2 screw job ?Just drill the holes in the casing slightly bigger and job done.

agreed, all that aggro when he could just turn those screws in with a proper ratcheting screwdriver.
