Nice video. Me personally i wouldve used a grinder to bring down the rust level, then POR34 on the frame. Then used VHT black over it. Love these old rangers.

I have a 2008 Ranger where the bed totally rusted out under a bed liner. Once detected, I did a lot of looking around and was finding beds almost as bad as mine for no less than $1500. I said that I could make a wood one for half the price. So I did. $600 or so for one made of treated wood, Lowes trim, and Lights from ebay. I even dug out some leftover stain a few months later and put it on. Sure, the bed is a bit heavier, but traction is better in the winter.

I've been highly considering doing this on my 07 ranger, as it's sentimental. 3.0 , single cab. That truck got me through some of the hardest times in my life, and basically paved my path to becoming a HD Mechanic. However, being that I got the truck from ohio, the rust is terrible. I got the classic Ankle breather, and my bed is practically non-existent. I think I'll either Engine swap into a cleaner build, or just buy a new Chassis, and completely rebuild the truck out of new parts. It'd probably be easier to get a new Ranger, but the only problem with it is the rust. Engine and Transmission work like new.

Had the same happen, I think the bed liners cause water to get trapped and not drain correctly. Have a 2010 and its bed is totally gone. Never seen something rust so fast

🤦🏻♂️ Don’t use that rubberized undercoating on anything that can rust. 🤦🏻♂️ All it does is hide the underlying corrosion and trap moisture, making the problem even worse. The right approach, IMO, is to grind away as much rust as possible, hit the remaining surface rust with rust reformer, then coating with Fluid Film or another lanolin/linseed oil compound.

Undercoating a frame while still infected with the rust it’s going to become a nightmare for you in one year. It’s gonna look totally like shit

This is not my truck. We were well aware of the problems and pointed everything out to the owner. Whata you gonna do? I gave it a year myself. Thanks

What would you do other than what they did? It is a older truck so sandblasting frame is a waste. Maybe rust coverter?
@matthewjenkins11613 жыл бұрын
@@holieocorneiousgerhart6174 I'd have misted it over with cheap Phosphoric acid with a simple spray bottle, before brushing on Hammerite or it's equivalent across the pond. Phosphoric acid chemically reacts with rust, creating a stable compound that resists further rusting. Cost about £20 and about 20 minutes extra time.

I looked around for a few months for a new used bed for my 2008 Ranger. I could not find anything useful for under$1500. I said to heck with this, I'll make a wood bed. And I did for around $600, using new treated lumber. I built it a smidge wider than normal, and added on a wood tool box. And it is still wide enough to take a sheet of plywood lying down.

A 2006 7’ longbed minus tailgate and taillights is right on 200 pounds. I bought a white one for my white 2009 after a female coworker backed into the RR corner but didn’t install the bed. About 2 years later another woman hit the other corner and bumper. A week later an old woman tapped the bumper at a stop sign. Then in April 2018 another woman nailed the rear on the right side totaling the truck. I was going to finally remove the bed and but cut off and save the left box side until January 2021 I slid down a steep driveway with ice underneath the snow and a little tree put a dent in the lower left box side just behind the cab. I bought that truck March 2011 with 2,405 miles on it for $12,600. Now if women would hit on me instead of hitting my truck. 😳
