Hi. And thanks for the video. Im considering switching from old real teak on my Bavaria 41 and replacing it with synthetic. How is your deck holding up, any problems? Ps. Is there any chance of any more sailing videos. Best regards from Jarle from Stem to Stern Sailing

Hi, it's still going strong and we decided to replace also the old teak in the cockpit and roof of the deckhouse. If there is a downside then it's that they get quite warm, sometimes even hot in bright sunshine. That's definitely something to keep in mind if you love to run barefoot...you shouldn't as an experienced sailor 🙃 I have a lot of footage but quite busy atm. Perhaps later this year.

Hello! Your video seems to be the only one I could find showing the removal of a playwood-veneer bavaria teak deck. Most videos I found are about older decks with screwed thick teak planks. I'm looking at a boat requiring the same treatment as yours, what year is your boat? I'm wondering if they were using sikaflex around 2001. On the boat I'm looking at, the veneer planks are starting to delaminate from the wood panel underneath. From your pictures it looks like it didn't come off in big chunks but had to be chiseled out bit by bit... Thanks for uploading your video!

Hi! Year is 1993. It was the wood panel, laminated of at least 4 or 5 layers, that was so difficult to remove. Basically layer by layer and yes, bit by bit. Tough job but totally worth it!

Hi really enjoyed watching your video. We are replacing our Dufour 39 deck. Laying it next week. What glue are you using and gauge size. The supplier of our deck (Permateek) gave us Bostik marine adhesive and a 2 mm spreader. Our decks have previously been sprayed with 2k polyurethane. Will car panel degreaser be best to clean the decks with? Any advice please would be greatly appreciated.

We were using Bostik. Can't tell you about the spreaders since it was prebuilt by the manufacturer. I would use anti silicon degreaser. Bostik adhesive and silicon (even a tiny rest of it) don't work together.

Hello, what is the colour of your permateek deck please?
@devmich992 жыл бұрын
Hi, color is called Vintage and is pretty close to what a real weathered teak looks like.

How much did it cost? And was the old teak screwed down or just glued on?
@devmich993 жыл бұрын
About 6k EUR. The old teak was just glued on.

Hi! I'm currently looking at a Bavaria 390 lagoon who deck teak has to be replaced. May I ask how much it costed you roughly?
@devmich994 жыл бұрын
@DonRaynald Roughly around 6000 Euro for the deck.

@@devmich99 Thanks! That's a good overhead to think to the boat price

another question: did you have to remove the chain plates of the lateral rigging (and therefore keeping the mast?) to do it? It looks like the chain plates are screwed through the teak to the deck from the photos of the boat I'm looking for, but on your video it looks like the chain plates are still on the deck after the teak removal, so I'm not really sure. Thanks
@devmich994 жыл бұрын
@@RayUbik No. We kept the chain plates in place and then repoint the new deck to the chainplates. Only things removed were the cleats and the genoa tracks. The latter is easy as there are counter plates in the laminate for the screws.

@@devmich99 what does “repoint” mean?

You take the old deck off in 10 hrs 1 person ?? We take a deck of a swan 59 glued in epoxi and take us 2 guys 10 days including all clets tracks and winchs 8 of them so 10 hrs i dont belive that
@devmich995 жыл бұрын
No. I started to take the deck off by myself, but got no further than 1m2 after 10 hours. So in the end I payed for taking it down by 3 professional boat builders. That took them about 12 hours. Fortunately the old real teak deck was glued with Sika, not epoxy. However, it was pretty tough job.
