I used this video to help me replace my exterior door handle on my 2008 Mazda MX-5 NC. Other videos showed removing door panels, but nothing showed how to reinstall the door handle mechanism, connecting rod and retainer clip. Most helpful was the removal of door grommets for better viability and in for my car access to the 10mm bolt holding one end of the handle. Thanks a bunch!

One thing I will add having done this myself just moments ago tape your window up that way it doesn't come crashing down when I popper the regulator cover out and unbolted the motor for some reason my window just fell right down in the door I did exactly everything that was shown in the video and my window came tumbling down luckily it didn't break 😬

whats insane is that this thing broke off in the first place. I have a 99 Civic with the original door handles intact. Absolutely insane for a 25-35 thousand dollar vehicle.

Yup. The plastic on these Mazda’s is garbage. It’s a great car but the plastics keep breaking all over the car from under the hood to the window gears/sprockets whatever. Just had the handle fail now too.

Great video bud. Helped me greatly when replacing the driver door handle on my wife’s 2010 CX-7. Unfortunately her actuator appears to be out as well. Key fob and interior lock/unlock buttons will lock and unlock all door except for driver door. Manual and key works fine, just no power. Any advice?

I followed your video but whilst opening the lock one of the thicker rods that is quiet small and uncaps off a plastic piece on the side of the door. Now I don’t know where it goes, any hints.

There’s something to note. It wasn’t in the video and in fact, it’s not in any of the door replacement videos. Put everything together correctly, then went to go lock the car and it would lock unlock. Try again lock unlock try again lock unlock, so of course I start looking at videos and websites. Nothing is online about this. No KZbin videos and no comments. So I take my effing door off again when I didn’t need to. Verify everything is connected correctly. Finally I go screw it. I guess I’ll just have to manually lock the door when the car is off. Since the automatic locks keep unlocking, the car when I tried to lock it. I figured damn I got to go a effing shop. I drive the car around the block, the computer resets, and then the doors lock. So keep that in mind when you do a replacement of locks or window motors, the computer will not operate those devices properly until you drive the vehicle around. So, if you have this problem I have when u are done installing, don’t redo your work and waste an extra hour! Just drive your vehicle for about a mile and then try again.

Brian - Thanks for the video, but my 2007 CX-7 door is stuck closed and won't open. It's acting like it's locked as turning the key from the outside to unlock or pressing the unlock button inside does nothing to unlock the door (the other doors unlock fine). Pulling the outside or inside door handles do nothing either to open the door. I've removed the first two Phillips screws as in the video, but can't remove the door panel like the video shows because the door is closed and the panel is "secured" in the door frame. Is there anyway to get the door open so I can change out the broken part?

It’s not very clear how to remove the original lock out of the door. I wish you didn’t skip recording that.

To see what you’re doing hold the lock with a pair of jaw pliers. Then you’ll be able to look through the hole and see how to line up the lock and turn it into place.

You’re gonna have to take the door panel off and then investigate from there. The panel is difficult to get off with the door closed but it can be done
