Don't ever replace that thing The new ones don't even let you use them plugged in anymore! I even purchased a new like $350 Panasonic that sure it works pretty well but it doesn't even get the hairs on like your mustache area at the top but that brawn never had that issue at all it had proper cutting all the way at the very edge of the razor. So I'm going to do this procedure he had in this video to fix my 85 85 as well. I can't believe how easy it is to take apart I thought it was all like glued together

Oh man you are the king for this video I swear. 😊 I was so upset when I realized that it was not possible to buy a replacement electric razor like my 8585 Braun anymore because all the new ones don't allow you to use them when they're plugged in they say it's because it's a safety hazard because people would try to use them in the shower or something. But we all know the real reason it's so that people can't use the razor after the battery isn't unable to be charged anymore it's just more plan to obsolescence. It pisses me off because the vast majority of the time when I use my razor it's on my way to work in the car and half the time the battery in it is dead but at least my old one I can just plug the bastard in with a inverter in the car and it allows me to use it Even with the battery toast

Thank you, and yes I agree they don it because of corporate greed, not safety hazard. Specially when the AC Cord has a AC to DC converter circuit and the voltage that goes to the shaver is very low.

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 how did you remove the original batteries? they don't unstuck when i apply my soldering iron, even though the solder has meltet
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 4 жыл бұрын
@@lauritseriksen4140 That is because your original batteries were not soldered but welded. There is no way you can melt that so you will need to either desolder the actual terminal plate from the PC board, or use fine pliers to separate them. The pliers force removal is kind of dangerous because you can damage the board, or hurt your fingers. So it's much easier to remove the battery along it's metallic terminals from the board and use your own small jumper wires to attach the new battery.

Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you. I am about to attempt to fix my 20-year-old 8985. I have already disassembled it. I do have a few questions. Can I assume that my circuit board's positive and negative sides are the same as yours? It looks identical. My next question is: The factory welds look intense, should I try to pry them apart, or should I use a soldering gun to warm them up? Lastly, when you mentioned "explode," did you mean a concern like wearing a face shield and gloves, or did you refer to the battery failing? lol.
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words, since I made this video I discovered that they sell pre-welded Rechargeable AA batteries so there is no need to heat up the standard AA batteries in order to solder them. Below is a link to these types of batteries. Also yes the polarity is the same on all similar models, and you can verify this by looking at how they are attached prior to removal. Hi, Very nice job putting this video together. Thank you for making this video. I have a question, originally were the terminals welded, not soldered, on the batteries? You said these were the 2nd set you were replacing. If welded, what Technique did you use to break loose the terminals? I've yet to take my series 8000 apart & wanted to know what I'd encounter beforehand. Thanks much....

Thanks for the quick reply. So you cut them off. Did you cut them off 'flush' from the old batteries? I understand that these terminals go thru the pcb & are soldered on the other side. I read that some people were un-soldering them from pcb. So you left them soldered to pcb? Also, which model Kerpu spot welder did you get? I see on Amazon they make many models. Thanks for your help.

@@bobyork1235 You are very welcome. So the first time I desoldered them from the PCB then attached them to my new batteries and resoldered them back to the PCB. The 2nd time when I did this video I didn't have to desolder them from the PCB since its removal from the battery was easy with normal solder, as I didn't use the Spot Welder the first time. Also, I bought this one www.amazon.com/gp/product/B092DB5R3S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Hi again, Thanks much for the info. I will use the same technique as you did. I have a Hakko soldering station with adjustable temp. but no spot welder so will probably get that same one you did. I did see that same model by Kerpu you got at Amazon. It appears the main difference between models is how much battery storage capacity they have. I believe you used 2800 mAh AA batteries as replacements? Does that allow you to use the shaver for a reasonable time between charging? I haven't been able to find out exactly what the mAh capacity of the original Braun batteries are. I may just get some MiMH type made by Energizer with a 2300mAh capacity since they are commonly available.. Thanks much for your time & help.

Hello. I replaced the batteries and now the „battery empty“ LED flashes the whole time. The Voltage of the batteries in series is 2,7V (too high)... Did I destroy the circuit board?
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, the voltage should be 1.2x2 which is 2.4V, however if there are capacitors in parallel with the battery it could be a little bit higher. The reason is that when you plug in the charger the charging voltage is always a little higher than the battery voltage and the capacitors sometimes retain that voltage from the charger. If the battery shows empty check to see your connections and soldering on the board.

@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Жыл бұрын
The soldering iron will not loosen the spot welding points. So you have to desolder it from the board and use metal plates to install the new batteries. Keep in mind that you can also buy these batteries new with plates on them already welded, here is an example www.ebay.com/itm/182123735697

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Sorry, but using of modern powerful batteries 2000-3000-3500 mAh in this "old-fashioned" shavers IMPOSSIBLE. Only low capacity 700-1400 mAh NiMH batteries can be installed for following charging and shaver using without main wire. Shaver has built-in "brains" for batteries capacity checking and charging and this info can't be changed. If you'll try to change batteries to items with high capacity, this "new" batteries isn't possible to charge in full. No, Sir. I checked rechargeable batteries from different brands - Sony and GP. New batteries was pre-charged, tested and works OK. For batteries replacement on my Syncro 7570 and 8585 360 grades Complete. In both cases, circuit units after replacement can't recharge this batteries and change for low capacity items (I install Ni-MH 850 mAh in both devices) should be made again. Now all works beautiful. Shavers' "brains" in both this models "don't understand" large capacity of modern batteries and can't charge it in full. It's real problem. Six years ago I got similar problem with Tecsun PL-600 world band radio with built-in charger, when branded high capacity (over 1500 mAh) batteries isn't possible (!!!) to charge, but low capacity Chinese "Tecsun" rechargeable units fills and works well.

Hi, I replaced the batteries as shown here, but I charged them using an external AA charger before inserting. They were at 1.39V, everything works and the shaver feels nice and powerful again. However the red light blinks constantly when the shaver is on (even when the batteries are completely full). I ran the shaver for ca. 30 mins to discharge them a bit, thinking maybe the circuit board doesn't expect 2x1.39V and shows an error. But even after getting them to 1.3V, it's still red. When plugged in ti charge it only lights up 1 of 5 LEDs. Did I fry something?
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't think you fried something but I do thing there might be a small solder bridge shorting out the LED driver circuit. When the battery voltage reading is 1.3V it means the battery is good, because they are rated at 1.2V and only a full capacity like new battery could reach 1.3V
@seklerek
@seklerek 2 жыл бұрын
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 I let it charge fully, checking the voltage every 15-20 minutes and it seems that the circuit board charged them to 1.45V. The actual charging voltage I measured was 1.5V, but the battery voltage stayed at 1.43-1.45 V from the moment the 60% charge LED came on - maybe it was just doing constant current topping up then? Anyway, the indicator now correctly shows the charge level and the batteries don't seem to be damaged, they did not overheat while charging and there is no swelling or anything. I will leave it in and see what happens, but it seems that everything is fine. Thank you for the video, it was very helpful.
