My old man when he would change the oil on the truck would brush on the used motor oil on the deck wood .

Most people won’t seal their trailer boards. Great job on the re decking.

That trailer with its new oak boards will last a long time with additional application of a good wood oil each year.

I have a 16 foot trailer with pressure treated deck that is 40 plus years. I am only just now seeing enough deterioration to be looking at replacing. I am not sure that I would use oak. Seems like it would make the trailer considerably heavier. I may be wrong. I need to do some research on that.

Did you leave space for expansion and contraction of the lumber?
@kenthompson3730 Жыл бұрын
It’ll create a gap as the green wood dries out. Then there’ll be plenty of space between boards for future swelling and contracting.
@jayss10 Жыл бұрын
Ditto on this. If you use green lumber or ground contact pressure treated pine you want to butt them tight because they will dry and shrink.

Drill bit through the wood and maybe a little into the metal then the screws

How much heavier were the oak boards than the original pine boards?
@thesmallenginekid9 ай бұрын
Probably about 4 times as heavy. But now that they are dry they are much lighter.

You're going to regret putting green boards on there. When it dries out you'll have cracks between the boards wide enough a chain will fall though.
@thesmallenginekid11 ай бұрын
The boards did dry out as there are gaps, but not even a 1/4” chain would fall through.
