North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper urged legislators on Monday night to keep fueling opportunities for the state’s citizens to succeed through more monetary investments in K-12 education, mental health services and public safety.
Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who is likely to run to attempt to succeed Cooper next year, gave the GOP response to his speech. Robinson promoted a Republican brand of fiscal responsibility, safety on the streets and public school teachers focusing on basic instruction, not ideology.

The son of a friend of mine went into the Navy for six years to learn diesel engine mechanics, got out at age 24, took one year of an advanced mechanics program, and is now 27 years old and earning $150,000 a year working on boats. Hard work and focus, instead of taking our student loans to get worthless "psychology" and "English" BAs that can't even get a minimum wage job.

I love this man. He, like me, has a flawed past, has a difficult journey, is not slick and yet, he’s a success. He truly embodies what this country is all about. My house taxes went up 60% due to the increase in value because of inflation. Car taxes went up since the vehicle value is supposed to be worth more, due to inflation. The cost of living has increased by over 16% since 2020, and groceries and gas has gotten cheaper. I’ve been lucky to get a 3% raise, which is 5% behind last years inflation rate. I’m very tired of these policies that are destroying the average working American. Regardless of income, this increase isn’t good for the American people. I want to know specifically what Cooper is doing to help everyone? From what I can see, it’s nothing. He is vetoing bills passed by the NC congress simply because it doesn’t align with his ideology leaving the common worker behind. I just want to live my life and be left alone by the State, County, and the Federal Government. Lately they’ve been in my mind, and in my pocket, and in my opinion they hadn’t the right. We need to get a law in the NC Constitution that the state must balance the budget each year. We also need a law that talks about the maximum amount of taxation that can occur. I don’t need taxes on my vehicle every year. I paid those when I bought it. It all adds up when you realize you’re paying sales tax, city tax, county tax, state tax, and federal tax. It’s insane how much you have to make just to live after taxes.

Much Respect to Mark Robinson. I live in NC . I hope when he becomes our next Gov. Of NC he looks into the prison system also. I work at a prison In NC. We are severely depleted with help and losing people at a record pace. One major reason is due to the newly formed Department of Adult corrections and Gov. Cooper appointed a Mr. TODD ISHEE over the dept. Who is trying to get NC accreditation from the ACA American Correctional Association, which he has personal gains and ties to. This severally stretches us thin and putting us in more danger than before. Trying to do things we don't have people to do it with. I hope Mr. Robinson looks into it or a news investigator. Before many more get hurt for Ishees pat on the back or pocket
