I was a single mom of 4 - our motto (back in the 80’s) was eat it up, wear it out - make it do or go without. My children recited it all the time. 😉

I love this method. I have always wondered about what the best paper would be. When ever I have a question about how to do a quilt this is my go to site. I love you all and Jenny is awesome and thank goodness she figures out how to make it easy. My grandmother taught me how to do cross stitch embroidery quilts but I taught my self how to do piece quilting.

Jenny and Misti, when I was about 12 or14 years old I helped my paternal grandmother make a string quilt, I’m 72 now. We cut 6” squares from the newspaper and that was our foundation. I still have some of those. Also,a few years later while messing with her sewing things I discovered some childrens dress and bodice paper patterns on newspaper dated December 26,1944.I can only imagine that my grandmother had been gifted some fabric and since it was the day after Christmas she decided to make a dress or jumper with it 40:19 and freehandedly cut her pattern from this paper. Thank you for letting me share.

I'm so glad that you use the center white strip to separate the patterns formed by the blocks. I've seen so many scrap quilts that have no unifying pattern to them and each separate block ends up disappearing into a mish-mash of color which to me is visually confusing. My first reaction on seeing the quilt was that you had done the colored squares and then sashed the blocks in white which I really liked. Then I realized that it was a center stripe of white coming together at the corners to form the dividing frame work. So much easier to construct that way. Thanks so for the idea.

You know, Jenny, I have seen this quilt so many times made of such beautiful material, but I have never liked it until now and its because you put the WHITE between the squares. That makes all of the difference in the world. I have wanted to make the blocks but refused to put in the work on something I wouldnt like and now you have made it possible! Thank you and your lovely designing mind!

I made four of these for gifts for my three sisters and a niece who go on an annual Fall shopping trip (and me, too). We give each other goody bags with candy, etc. I had a lot of flannel from making quilts, and used it to make theses. They loved their quilts! The room two of them shared was pretty cold, so their quilts came in handy!

Jean from Canada I Love learning from your tutorial. My Moms favorite quote for our large family of 7 kids, was waste not, want not, so I like your as well. I recently made a star and shared with you I will continue to do this untill I have 2 single quilts hoping to have scallops trim or prairie points for trim. or maybe the binding that has the little tiny different color in the binding as it sort of looks taylored. Love your help, most appreciated.

I just realized I was actually watching a quilt tutorial. A QUILT tutorial. And I'm not mad. The fact I clicked onto it is so... Seriously? I came here from an; 'Eazy fabric rug' tutorial, but I'm not sure how I got there.🤔 I've really loved quilts for yrs, but I wasn't really interested in making own untill maybe 2 yrs.ago. I'm now itching to make 1. It's super intimidating, though. It seems like a virtual impossibility, imo. While watching the rug tutorial it came to me all @ once; 'OMG! I know how they make quilts!' So now, I'm borrowing all the quilt tips & tricks I can fit in my small, thick brain! Thx! Your lovely quilts are giving me igreat nspiration.♥️
