Blue Origin successfully completed its 14th mission to space and back for the New Shepard program on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
Mission NS-14 featured a crew capsule outfitted with astronaut experience upgrades for upcoming flights with astronauts onboard.
This flight continued to prove the robustness and stability of the New Shepard system and the BE-3PM liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen engine. Also onboard today were more than 50,000 postcards from Blue Origin’s nonprofit Club for the Future.
All mission crew supporting this launch exercised strict social distancing and safety measures to mitigate COVID-19 risks to personnel, customers, and surrounding communities. Learn more about this mission on BlueOrigin.com: bit.ly/35EJ76D

@@katarina2069 Would an ad-blocker also skip in-video ads? No, just the ads from KZbin. Regarding ad-blockers on different platforms, you can watch KZbin ad-free on smartphones and tablets as well, at least on Android. Search for "Play Lite", that's an app that interfaces with the KZbin API to present a user interface similar to the original KZbin app, but when you lauch a video using Play Lite, it'll run free of KZbin ads, although the player used is actually the real KZbin app player. This works because Android apps are split into different "activities" and the main activity isn't used, Play Lite directly calls for the playback activity of the original app and instructs it to play the video URL it passed through. This way, the instructions to insert ads at certain points are not passed to the playback activity. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.panagola.app.playlite On the PC, I prefer the KODI (ex XBMC) media player and use the KODI Android remote control to queue KZbin videos for ad-free playback within KODI on the PC. Or I'm using Chrome with an ad-blocker, depending on which PC I intend to watch videos at that moment. So you see, I know my way around ads quite well. 😜

Anyone Jeff Bezos is doing this to better humanity is deluding themselves. He's in it for the money but the main reason he's in is bragging rights. If it wasn't for his ego, and if he truly cared about helping humankind, he would have teamed up with Elon Musk & SpaceX and worked together in order to get to the Mars faster rather than competing against him. Instead of sharing research and technological advancements and pooling their money, they are in direct competition. Nope, it's a race between those 2 richest men of the world. But they are still raising money to fund Starship and Starlink. Just developing Falcon reusability cost $1 billion and I don't know how close reusability is to paying for its own development -- it definitely will eventually. Starlink could end up being _extremely_ profitable in the not too-distant future. I assume Blue Origin has been paid something by ULA for BE-4 engine delivery, but they obviously have nowhere near SpaceX's revenue. SpaceX is also a _much_ larger company than Blue Origin. New Shepherd's landing burn seems a lot less efficient than Falcon 9's. In particular it seems to bring itself to a near stop well above the landing pad, then let down slowly, which means that it's spending fuel fighting gravity in a near-hover. In contrast F9 waits until the very last possible second to fire its engine[s], such that it's decelerating right up until the instant of touchdown. This maximizes the amount of fuel/thrust that goes towards deceleration, and avoids the overhead of hovering. F9's landings are also a lot more accurate. If they were as far off-target as NS was here they'd miss the barge.
@quinnreierson
@quinnreierson 3 жыл бұрын
The falcon actually can’t hover, one engine at minimum throttle is too powerful to hover. And I agree, wasting that fuel on hovering is useless. They didn’t even use it to center the rocket on the pad
@patrickchase5614
@patrickchase5614 3 жыл бұрын
@@quinnreierson Yup, Merlin 1D only throttles down to about 110 klbf IIRC, and an empty F9 first stage is much lighter than that. I'm actually impressed that BE3 can throttle down as deeply as it does (though the nozzle must be inefficient at full thrust to avoid flow separation when throttled), but as you acknowledge it's not an efficient way to land.

Winds were fairly high today. It was fighting the wind to get over the pad. It landed on the pad though, so that is good. Probably need to adjust the algorithm to better handle the wind drift while on descent ... or just not fly when wind is above a certain threshold. Although an accident with the booster landing would be expensive, it would not endanger the passengers, who are in the separate capsule.
