海底での潜水艦の戦いをテーマとした疑似3Dのシューティング作品。大型筐体を採用しており、潜望鏡をのぞいて敵に照準を合わせ、魚雷を発射していく。潜望鏡を使用するアイディアは、1978年の「シーウルフ」や、1982年の「サブロック3D」に採用されており懐かしくもある。グラフィックは非常にリアルで、潜望鏡をのぞいた状態では両側がスピーカになるので臨場感も抜群である。指令を受けた後、弾数制限のある魚雷を使って戦う。魚雷は一定時間ごとに補充される。潜水、潜水移動、水上など変化に富んだステージが用意されている。

Battle Shark is a first-person shooter which has the player looking through a 'periscope' in order to destroy the enemies. This game features simulated damage whenever the player gets hit by either an enemy torpedo or a missile.

TIPS AND TRICKS -
Battle Shark has a compliment of torpedoes at the start of a level. Once these are depleted there is a short delay before they are replenished.
Increase the number of torpedoes Battle Shark can hold by defeating the end of level bosses.

For some reason exactly those two games are intrinsically linked in my memory as a pair and core memory. Love 'em both. Pretty formative arcade games that made a huge impression on me back in 1990.

Galaxy Arcade in Roseville, Michigan had one of these. That last level was a nightmare, even with better torpedoes and missiles.

With Sega and their always superior super scaler technology, I always felt Sega missed out on a underwater submarine game release (other than Sega's Subroc which was on water). The 80s and early 90s were a different time though, and Sega had gone hard into racing games and flying-shooters, whereas Taito seemed to have a tad bit more creative risk-taking, and it shows with titles like this.
