R-Type is such a classic game... I first played in the arcade so many moons ago and fell in love wit the graphics and game play. I got my parents to buy R-Type for the Sega Master System, I was in heaven! Played it hardcore till I could beat it, what a great game. Always wanted R-Type II, now years later I've bought the arcade stick and waiting for a Steam sale for R-Type 2. :)

I like how the story implies that you are part of an armada in all of the R-type games. That just makes the story way more realistic than a solo-fighter scenario.

Dang.. the artwork sprite and animation movements looks despite its age.. it would be awesome if the current publisher make a r type collection for Nintendo switch (including physical copy) and others similar to Darius collection for switch by taito..
Just look at the creativity of the enemy waves, minibosses and bosses of this game. The R-Type series was easily the best of the side-scroller arcade games of all time, without question. Also amazing is the Amiga port of this game: 7Mhz 16bit CPU and 1mb of RAM and it's arcade-perfect.
@purplehaze23423 жыл бұрын
Its not arcade perfect
@MrLtia12342 жыл бұрын
@@purplehaze2342 Indeed a long way form being arcade perfect, but an excellent port for the Amiga (it's actually not 1 meg of RAM, it's 512k! later models came with 1 meg as standard, but this ran on the original 1000/500 models). Going down from 256 colours to 32 really doesn't make as much difference as you'd think - it looks and moves great. It's a game known for really good ports - obviously the PC Engine version was the closest contemporary version at a sensible price (The x68000 released the same year was better, obviously. But you're paying for hardware that outstrips the arcade machine). Scrolls up and down to allow for the slight difference in resolution and there's a bit of sprite flicker, otherwise it really is arcade perfect all on a cheap console released the same year. Amazing Nintendo didn't take them up on those graphics chips. The 48k Spectrum version has nothing missing- it's the whole thing with full size sprites at full speed, which is unbelievable for a computer released in 1982 for £125. There's no way in hell the people at Sinclair had any idea that machine could do that. The Master System version is also impressive. The C64 version, while predictably cut down due to hardware limitations, runs fantastically and of course arguably has better sound than the arcade.

Also the 25fps and slightly jerky scrolling of the Amiga version makes the later stages almost impossible. It's not a bad port but it's far from being arcade perfect.

The N64 was never graced with an R-Type game, the PS1 on the other hand, had R-Type Delta.
There needed to be R-Type x Gradius. I would've loved to see Vic Viper blasting Bydomechanoids and R-9 zapping Cores.

I always find Irem games to have that extra touch of difficulty in them, just so happens most of the R-Type series fits into that mold. This game has no dull moments in it, it's shoot, shoot, shoot if you want to stay alive, or else the man made monstrosity, known as the Bydo, will destroy everything they come into contact with.
The first time I played this way bacc, I didnt remember, 2001? I was so sad finishin it but then a friend of mine told me if I finish it the second time, something cool happen. Rushed home, finished it the first and second time, I YELLED when I saw the other 3 didnt disintegrate. It was such a huge success to me, that it keep runnin in my head for months that 'I SAVED THEM' This is the reward I got and I'm happy, even if it's a video game ^ ^

It's the second one, but the ending turned out almost weaker than the first. Anyway, I suggest checking out the fun "Axelay" ending level too. It's like R*Type from an alternate universe.

Can someone explain why in these play throughs at no time do the players challenge themselves. Do they believe playing it safe insures a good video. Personally they just come across as DULL.
