I Have covered this topic before but I really enjoy making these bespoke mouldings up from various cutters. You really need to plan ahead to make sure very cut is possible with accuracy, or you will be left with a cut at the end which will taper out or dive into the cutter and ruin the moulding.

There are very few KZbin videos demonstrating correct spindle moulder use so thanks for making these. I am trying to learn to use mine more effectively and your workshop videos are great. This one was like a lesson from Bickford's book "Mouldings in Practice". The moulding was deconstructed and then built up in stages. Cheers and stay well.

Great video on how to use a tilling shaper the old way ,you defiantly know how to use a sharper and not scared of it. Today I would use my CNC since we only make short runs of molding we can cut a small profile scan it in and run it .I amazed on your shaper skills.

Nice to see how you did it with your spindle moulder, I managed to replicate the moulding my nieces husband wanted on my router table, if you remember Ollie you commented on my Instagram.. If i were to do it again then this video is invaluable, your thought processes are to be commended... Cheers Paul

Enjoyed this, and great work on the videography. Didn't quite understand the bit about running the spindle backwards and having the cutters bevel up/down, be interesting to see explanation in a future vid if you get chance. I only have a router to compare with - it only goes backwards when I mount it in the table 🤣

Thankyou, Sorry it is a little confuzzling, if you put the cutterblock on the spingle upside down the cutters are on the right and the spindle would have to reverse in rotation to be able to cut, this gives you the ability to use a corner of the cutter either underneath the workpiece or above it.

Thanks Pete, I replied below : if you put the cutterblock on the spindle upside down the cutters are on the right and the spindle would have to reverse in rotation to be able to cut, this gives you the ability to use a corner of the cutter that would have been on the top side of the block underneath it.

Can I ask for your opinion on spindal moulders plz Mr Bradshaw? I am moving workshop in the new year to a much larger unit and my current spindal moulder has started failing TODAY!! I am looking to purchase a new one this week but I'm no expert. Can you or your viewers advise please ? I don't want to spend upwards of £5000 but I'd like a power feed in that budget also. Kind regards in advance Paneinthesash (louis)

Hi Norman, I would look at second hand felder. the 700 series is the perfect machine IMO. Should pick up a very good model with powerfeed for that budget. Whatever brand id opt for tilting spindle. the height readout is a godsend tbh also. The sliding table i don't use at all, but might come into its own if you don't have a separate tenoner.
