R.I.P., Mike Nesmith. In his final book a few years ago he tells the story about the first screening of RM for the studio suits. A young woman was in attendance who responded to their bewildered silence after the end credits by standing up and shouting, "What is wrong with you people?! THIS IS THE GREATEST THING EVER!"

Just watched this with the commentary by Alex Cox, Mike Nesmith, a couple of other people (casting director, actors, can't remember names) and it was BRILLIANT. They had an amazing conversation going throughout and laughed and giggled, gave some great insights into the film-making process in general, & some great stories about casting and filming. So I recommend to anyone who hasn't seen this to watch it at least twice. Once without commentary, & then again with commentary. You won't be sorry.

What do you mean by without commentary & then again with commentary?
@Andraste77
@Andraste77 Жыл бұрын
@@NoStingersSince1994 On the criterion edition of the DVD you can go into the settings and watch the film with running commentary by Nesmith and others, and then take that feature off and watch it as it was released in theaters. When you watch 'with commentary' they often talk over the actors in the scene, so you can miss dialogue if you only watch once with the commentary. So watch it twice, once with, once without.

Here because my spouse’s doctor made the “all I wanted was a Pepsi” reference which we finished, saying “and she wouldn’t give it to me,” and he said we made his day. In ten years no one had finished the quote for him. No one got the reference. Turns out he was quoting Repo Man and we were quoting Suicidal Tendencies. I wondered aloud, “which came first? The chicken or the egg.” Then he had to do a little research and came back to let us know that it was Suicidal Tendencies in 83. But now I’m wondering, was there a connection? (Edit: the song is in the movie) All I know for sure is that it was the best experience we’ve ever had in the ER 😆

This was my favorite film for many, many years before being replaced by another, endlessly rewatchable film where the plot matters far less then the wonderful dialog and colorful characters. A film which, coincidently, is also set in Los Angles. Have you guessed which one yet? Its the big lebowski. You could describe the big lebowski as "after a case mistaken identity, a man becomes involved in the search for the kidnapped wife of a millionaire." That's accurate but does a very poor job of describing why people enjoy the movie. Both movies are satires. That's why they are so rewatchable; you stop worrying about what the film is about and where its going and instead just enjoy the ride.

It's 34 years later and I must bring up "The Lattice of Coincidence" at least twice a week. It rules my life. It's really spooky, and it's pretty much meaningless. "Suppose you're thinkin' about a plate of shrimp, and somebody says "Plate", or "Shrimp" or "Plate of Shrimp". Fun fact: In the very next scene a sign in the window behind the Rodriguez Brothers says "Plate of Shrimp $3.95".

Mister Spray I know exactly what you mean. Same feeling in different circumstances, like two different worlds colliding just for a split second. What does it mean? Probably squat shit because I spent a long time reading books while my wife was present and don’t recall many similar incidents. It’s spooky when it happens tho.

winston smith I just didn't get it. I mean I wanted to like it. It was like give it to me . It didn't. Guy Ritchie would have made this a Classic if he had been handed what is basically a good idea for a movie But If Estevez was cast it still might have failed because he is just not that good in it.

frankieinfrance As I said above . I just don't get it. Good idea but poorly executed. Sometimes people try to make something a Cult Classic by heaving praise on it although it is unmerited.Repo Man reminds me of Buckeroo Bonzai or even a film from the 80s called-- I think- King of Hearts . They just don't work. They are not that good.Two films that came about in the 80s that have gained a following and justifiably so. Road House and Three Amigos. There always has been a Classic Movie to be made involving and about Repo Man and it could've (keep in mind this was before the days of Reality Shows) and maybe can be done but this aint it .

eugene poteet I couldn't even finish watching "Three Amigos" it sucked just as hard as "Spy's like Us" which were both made by John Landis. J. L. also made that crappy movie "beverly hills cop 3."

winston smith Haven't seen Spies like Us. . Okay . I personally thought Three Amigos was a lot of fun and it had some good laughs in it but can I assume we are in agreement on Repo Man ? There was a French movie circa early 80s called La Cage Aux Folles. Another Cult item. I agree with Author Danny Peary when he reviewed it in his book CULT MOVIES . You kept wanting it to hit with waterfalls of laughs but you only got dribbles. The Director said the Actors didn't play their parts well enough but I side with Perry . It was Perry's opinion that the Director is the reason the movie fails. He simply had no skillset for comedy. Did not see the American remake with Gene Hackman and Robin Williams.
