Repointing Brickwork on an Old Property Renovation Project

Many thanks for those kind words, this particular project is a very tough ask, when you normally repoint brickwork the bricks still have there nice square edges, but these unfortunately have not, they shot to bits, it’s like trying to point up a hedgehog, but when you stand back from the building it looks so much better than it did, many thanks for watching 👏👍🧱

Should that not be a lime mortar Budd ? I think a tuck pointer/ finger trowel would be a lot easier to use and cause less smearing?

Hi Budd, as you might know from my previous comments I'm a big fan of yours and really enjoy your videos, but I reckon a 5-6 mm finger or tuck jointer would give you less mess on the face. 😊

I think your spot on, the brick faces are smashed to bits so you have nothing straight to point , so we are going to try a pointing up gun , we will film it and see how it goes, cheers for your input 👍🧱

It definitely doesn’t look like new Brickwork that’s a fact, the brickwork has been grit blasted and most of the face of the brickwork has been blown off, so you can only point to the shape of the brick that’s left, it’s like trying to point up a hedgehog, we’re basically making it solid again, when you stand back ten or so feet it looks much better than it did, it’s a real difficult one to do, as it’s over 300 years old, it’s not easy, cheers for watching 👍🧱

Bud, I cut a 6 or 8 mm finger trowel down, to 5" then use a hawk on the beds and fill the putps. Helps save time. Looks great though mate.

Try using your small metal spatula bud flat narrow end fill a lot easier seen you use it in earlier video I use one on every pointing job good job your doing though 👍

Appreciate that comment, it’s hard old going as the face of the bricks is shot to bits, but it’s looking a whole better than it did, basically it’s part of the process to save the building, cheers for watching 👍

There’s not been to much of that this year, the bricks have been grit blasted, there are no square edges left but to be fair as you step back it doesn’t look to bad, considering it’s 300 years old, how is your world ?
