The fact there are people in a first-world country who are living in extreme poverty and are struggling to feed their children every night, in a country where there are enough resources to be distributed to every single person, is absolutely horrifying and ridiculous. For one of the strongest countries in the world, this is unacceptable. We can't even solve our own poverty issues before we think about solving international poverty issues; what a pathetic state our country is in.

The council seen very keen to closing these HMO's, and while I understand why, it is a joke to say they're solving the problem. Because they're instead either forcing them to the next HMO, or into the streets! I mean private renting is too expensive, the waiting list for social housing is probably longer than the population of entire cities combined, and you might as well forget the word 'own' exists! Until London stops obsessing about gentrification and 'exciting new developments', and focuses on real issues, this'll only become more of a norm

In 1973 I moved to London because of University and a better chance of a good career , the problem regarding affordable housing is nothing new as I and others like myself found out to our cost . One advertisement said " large bed sitting room with cooking facilities " when I went to view I found an old garage with a rickety bed and a camping stove & worst of all ....a dirty chemical lavatory . Funny now but not at the time . As I kept a diary at the time it makes me shudder but as Shakespeare said. ." All ' s well that ends well "

I was going to go visit Britain from Australia and see where my ancestors came from but I was warned about all the downside now in Britain with the crime and immigrant problems and you have to be on the watch out all the time for anything that might come my way , so instead of coming back home totally disappointed at what I would see from a crumbling nation I cancelled the whole idea , very sad .

They said they were spending millions on enforcement, which unfortunately forces slumdwellers on to the street. I agree they need to stop this but think they need to look at how best to spend the money. Enforcement stops one landlord from abusing people temporarily. Building social housing means those tenants are not available to abusive landlords on a long term basis.

😱British housing design is tiny and congested , always they doing same. They should change their architectural designs and when they build a house building it should be high 2 or 2 and half high from the ground and every windows have a window roof for protect to come rain inside the rooms and it will protect to make a houses damp from rain water. Houses are flat with ground so the slugs and insects 🐌 are easily enter the house if houses have Veranda and if would be high from the ground slugs/Insects couldn’t come into the house.
