@@AztecsWrapUpShow I think CW is a major player. They already work with the PAC-12 and the PAC-12 Enterprises media production facilities and capabilities is cost incentive for a network like CW. It’s a huge asset for the PAC-12. But I think Turner will want to get a piece with not being able to keep the NBA. Women’s basketball is on the rise and the rights to a top 3-4 men’s basketball league will be valued. Basketball has always been undervalued, but I think the PAC-12 will divide basketball from football so you’ll see one network for football and a second for basketball with PAC-12 network taking all other sports.

The CW is headquartered in Burbank, CA and partially owned by Paramount and Warner Bros who are both desperate for a revenue boost like March Madness and College Bowl Games. They may be willing to outbid the AAC to win over TV viewers in the Memphis and New Orleans areas. UNLV and UTSA would be attractive markets again if broadcast TV networks were willing to invest.

no body from the AAC is going to join the PAC. SBC maybe. But it is the PAC-West with two new members and five other members from old MWC and leaving behind 7 members who remain part of the original MWC. The media value is no way more than AAC currently holds and in the future and maybe new media deal for G6 PACWest is higher than MWC and SBC but not substantially higher. But nobody from AAC is joining the PAC-West or PAC-Mountain as the revenue and resources and status are not there.

I still think Turner is the play. -They recently lost the NBA so they have the money -They are testing the college waters this year with the MWC -They have multiple cable channels in TNT, Tru, and TBS -They have a streaming platform in MAX The new PAC could get very creative with this media group.

The way ESPN stashes AAC games on their worst channels and espn+ is telling imo. Personally I’d go with Turner as the main partner with maybe a splash of the CW. I hope if Amazon is involved then they’d be an option to stream 100% of the games for those of us without cable.

Does Turner stream outside of a $100-a-month bundled package? Put it on CW or another over-the-air network and an accessible streamer like ESPN+ or Amazon. Otherwise I'll do what I'm doing now, which is listen to audio on the Aztecs website.

@timhearden34492 күн бұрын
That's the problem with CBS Sports Network -- nobody gets it. TNT is in more homes and would bring more money, but it seems like you'd still need a major bundle like Fubo or KZbin TV. I hope they go a different route. As for schools, they should consider looking at Liberty. National brand looking to upgrade. They might be one of the few East Coast schools with the financial backing and inclination to travel.

If they can add Memphis, Tulane, and UTSA… I believe they can acquire the 12-15 million dollar goal. SDSU💪
@dadwithavlog52682 күн бұрын
@@DayOneRob they’re not taking 3 AAC teams if they are all demanding more help for their exit fees. So they will focus on Memphis because the PAC also wants to build their basketball brand. Then they’ll go the cheaper route of inviting C-USA teams or Sunbelt. So Memphis (possibly UTSA and Tulane if they pay all their own exit fees) but it’s probably Texas State (that’s why they turned down the MWC because I believe they have some sort of secret verbal agreement with the PAC-12 just waiting on the media deal. Then I can see Louisiana and possibly Rice because they have deep pockets and can afford to leave the AAC without help. That puts the PAC-12 in Houston and with Texas St they will be near Austin. Louisiana gives Memphis a rival in football. Then you’ll see them add Grand Canyon for basketball and the 12th member.

@@CatsClaw44 they will add the only school that makes their media deal better, Memphis. No other school in the AAC moves the needle much. The only reason the PAC12 offered Tulane and USF is they wanted in Florida and Louisiana for views and recruiting. USF makes less and less sense unless they want to be football only. Tulane can come, but the PAC-12 is not going to break the bank for them when they can get the Rajin Cajuns for almost nothing and really accomplish the same thing as Tulane. There is some thought that UTSA won’t have as high an exit fee because they just joined the AAC and don’t get a full share. Rice makes sense because they have deep pockets and the PAC12 can get into Houston. But not taking Tulane or USF will not hurt the PAC12 much if at all.

Get enough money to just add Memphis and have a nice, small (mostly) regional conference, sell every game played to someone - CW, cable, streamers, youtube, etc.
@dadwithavlog52682 күн бұрын
They want at least 10 football schools because the NCAA requires that for you to have a conference championship game. Conference championship games are big money and typically have the most TV viewers. So any media deal is going to want 10. They also want at least one more basketball school. That allows 22 conference games and will prominently place the PAC-12 among the top 3-4 basketball conferences in the country. 6-7 bids to the tournament with each unit (game) being worth $2 million dollars. Each team gets 50% with the other 50% split among the other members (that’s the PAC-12 agreement). So that’s big money for the conference.

@@ricodelavega4511 I tend to agree, but the media partner is going to want to have that championship game. So it will be 3 football schools and maybe a 4th if the basketball is decent otherwise they’ll get a basketball school. Grand Canyon? San Francisco? Wichita State? Creighton? St Louis? But PAC-12 commissioner Teresa Gould flat said that basketball is a priority and all members will be required to fund basketball to a certain level to maintain membership. Tournament shares are huge and basketball has been undervalued but with the women’s sport gaining a lot of popularity its value is on the rise for both men and women.

So you want 11pm kickoffs? There’s only so many time slots. ESPN and Fox pay the big money for SEC and B1G. They pay a lesser amount for the ACC and b12, and they’re not going to pay that to the Pac-?. Three of those conferences have PTZ and MTZ teams now, so they’re going to normally use the 7:30pm PTZ slot for those conferences (to the chagrin of USC). Now… watch the B1G ask to have some of their volleyball games follow up football games on Fox. A deal with Fox means FS2 and FS1 with maybe the conference championship game on the main network on Friday. A deal with ESPN might merit the occasional 7:30 Pacific slot twice a year, maybe ESPNU… and maybe streaming. This is why other options are being placed front and center in these discussions.

We need a Spanish language broadcast. Even if they developed an internship program with SDSU Telecommunication and film department. Then hired a team of Spanish speaking students to do a talk show and play by play for b-ball and F-ball. There's 20 million people withing 100 miles of the stadium and probably 40 +/- % speak Spanish. Also, the old Neilson rating system is antiquated. Was designed for advertising companies to determine how far a person would drive to buy a used car or cheap furniture. SDSU's market is huge one of the biggest in the nation. If the product is appealing someone in LA will be a fan because of proximity just like someone in Montana will be a Boise St fan. A Spanish language broadcast is a start.

I'm starting to wonder more and more the timing of getting the original 4 MWC schools to the Pac 12 if it had to do with seeing how the media deal with the Big East developed. There really hadn't been any whispers of realignment from WSU and OSU for a year and then a couple months after the Big East got 7.2 million per school in a non football conference we get realignment in the beginning of the football season. The Big East even had a little bidding war so that could be looking positive for potential media companies looking for content. A couple months could've been the time it took to get some preliminary estimates to convince the 4 schools to get on board. I wonder if they figure with the money the Big East got without football and picking the right schools like Gonzaga and Memphis that they would be able to get the media deal of 12-15 million that has been tossed around. On that same note, I know it has pretty much been only media deals with all sports but I wonder if the Pac12 will actually try to sell football separate from basketball and other sports like what Brett Yormark, B12 commissioner, has been talking about possibly doing in the future. Hopefully it all turns out well.
