Here comes a rant that will tick some people off, no matter from what angle one considers it: My wife and kids were all born overseas, it took quite a while for our kids to get their Aussie Citizenship. The reps at Australia House in London said "as far as we're concerned you are an Aussie and your kids have every right to Aussie Citizenship (by descent)" However the pen pushing tax payer funded red tape demons in The ACT back then was "investigating my status". Yes I was born and raised in Australia and I fell in love with my wife overseas and we got married there and the rest was no different to any other family ups and downs anywhere in this world. But my status had to be "investigated" and "reviewed" and "assessed", to the point where the relevant Minister in my wifea country of birth had his Staff write an official letter to the Australian Ministry/Department. Which was then an "internarional" red tape process that had to be handled exclusively by the goons in The ACT. Finally after a year of red taoe BS it was confirmed that I didn't lose my Citizenship. Soy then some 15 year wife and I agreed to follow through with the Kids Aussie Citizenship and Passports. After all, they are OUR kids and they deserve to have a choice to be Aussie just as much as they have the right to be the nationality their mum was born into. OK. Later on iife when my wife and I decided ro move to Australia and our eldest was 16 bybthat stage, youngest was about 4ish (typical dad here!!!!) She had to pay heeps for every step in the process, go to approved Doctors and we had to pay for all that and then pay some crazy amount for the visa application without any possibility of refund if rejected. Luckily she wasn't rejected and she got her partner Visa with the right to stay/permanent residency with a 5 year wait before she could apply for Citizenship. Anyway, the 5 years went past, she passed the test with 100%, gave The Pledge via a "zoom" type session because of the crazy bug "threat". Anyway, here comes the crazy part: On the day she went in for the written test, mask on and all, she came back all proud of her result and she said to me 'you won't believe this, there were some people in there for the test who can't say their phone number in English". I asked questions in disbelief, but yes, she witnessed some people there about to take The Citizenship Test who could not say 0 to 9 in English, let alone form sentences. Now, my Mrs is no Shakespeare, she makes some grammatical mistakes and has her European accent, but anyone sober can understand her and she understands anyone sober when speaking English. I never noticed just how hard it was for some people to understand English when spoken with a non anglo-saxon accent. I seriously thought that was a yank issue only! So there it is, a wife of an Aussie for almost 2 decades at the time, mother if 4 Australian Citizens was treated like any mailorder bride and then passed her Citizenship Test with 100% alongside some there who couldn't read the question on the test. Yes and Heaven forbid an Aussie tries to come home after living abroad for a while, the ACT gods are gonna have a field day "investgating, reviewing, assessing" their status. Don't believe me, I don't care, because we are alive, well and still together and our kids are living a life here in THEIR HOME, AUSTRALIA. In fact, they have lost almost all ties to their childhood home, the only thing they kinda miss is the childhood memories of playing in the snow. My wife and I don't miss that white crap thst falls from the sky and we sure don't miss shoveling the driveway clean of it. Anyone pissed? We weren't impressed eitherz especially after aeeing in the western suburbs of Sydney hiw many "immigration agents" are bragging about all the loopholes they use forntheir clients. Clearly we foolishly did things by the book and it took years and heaps of $ and stress. I guess I can whinge about the 2 weeks in quarantine up Nth upon my return and all that BS and hiw this all cost us just about everything we had. Was not easy nor cheap to be neither here nor there for over 6 years in total. We almost didn't move,. that's how frustrating the process was. Totally over it and this comment is more sharing of experiences than whinging, but heck, a good ol whinge isn't a bad thing,.once a year or so, missing some Vitamin C ( for concrete) in mi bix/breaky. God bless Australia. Let's not ruin our home and more importantly, lets not allow the criminal red taoe parasites ruin it for everyone. Cheers. 🍻

Its 10 multiple choice questions, pretty generally knowledge, and the questions and answers are readily available online with the department including examples in the 10-page study guide. I think the only way to fail is if you can't speak English. Also, I don't think there is a limit to the number of times you can sit the test even if you do fail.

I strongly believe there needs to be an essay type question which requires a person seeking citizenship to answer about true Australian values , if they can understand and abide by them as far as they are an Australian citizen. Also I believe we need a visa interview implemented to obtain any Australian Visa to know if the immigrants can actually understand Australian ways of life. So we can preserve what is left of Australian lifestyle and culture.

Yes, women have equal rights... and lefts; but, seriously, the Australian citizen test IS very hard, because the questions on the practice test are sometimes a bit vague, and even though I passed on the third and final time, the whole experience was very stressful.

I have done the test. The test is fair but most are not reading the Australian citizen booklet the answers are all there. The older people with slower minds to remember may forget the answers , just goes to show who may be applying for their citizenship in my opinion. Should be 100% pass rate. Do your homework wanna be citizens.

I personally think questions like the anzac day and colours in flags as pointless, you don't need to know these to gain entry and can be learnt later. Things like the rights of other people are good questions however. So yeah, you really want to emphasize what's acceptable behaviour and whether they will integrate well, learn that we don't want the bs from their country that they left being brought over here THEN they can learn about flags and public holidays.

One way of being Australiann , being born of the BLOOD. a bird born in a fishtank doesn't make him a fish, hes bird. Australians are anglo-saxon-celts of Britannia.

Multiple choice is always very easy. Try without it, like how we studied in Western Europe. Just answer. Right or wrong. You know or don't.

Thailand only hands out citizenship to 100 people per year. And you need to be able to read and write Thai fluently. Apart from other requirements.😊
