Karuvannur crisis should be taken as an opportunity by note only Kerala State but nationally. In yesteryears Cooperative banks have been used and abused to temporarily park black money of transactions arising out of real estate but now these banks are under the ambit of RBI through KYC and liable to pay IT. When Harshad Mehta stock market scam happened Manmohan Singh saw it as an opportunity to bring new generation private sector banks which broke the monopoly of the arrogant public sector banks to mend their way of working, rest is history as some of these private banks are world beaters now. Now SEBI, NSE is in place and every stock market transaction is transparent. What government should do is bring these banks under stringent audit ambit by appointing a retired CAG and a core team of officers to plug all loopholes. The cooperative banks scam is happening in many states like Gujarath and Maharashtra where the Pawars and company ruled the roost in cooperative sugar mills, all these politicians and their local committees in Kerala have no concern for the millions of poor depositors. Not only that the staff are appointed as a reward to their party comrades families, this must stop. Very good debate this type of issues should be debated and highlighted.
