Great video! I bought a sickly cat palm from a big box store a couple years ago. It was maybe 10" long and and a sickly plant. My wife laughed at the poor thing 😔 and my weird attachment for the plant. Last summer there was a huge growth and I split the plant using a knife. It felt like the right thing to do. Today, I repotted and no doubt I will be halving those two. I haven't seen any blooms yet.

What do I do when some leafs getting brown and dry. So far, I have cut them off,but it may not be the best solution. Help.

You are doing the right thing! When it's brown and dried up, it's "dead weight" and ugly...so remove them. Check to make sure you are growing new leaves and the plant has sufficient nutrients. I use a combination of both liquid and granular fertilizer a few times a year. It's better to under fertilize rather than over fertilize. When fertilizing potted plants, water in "water weakly"...use a weaker solution. Another thing that might help your potted plant is to "flush" the pot, water the plant several times to flush out any salt/sodium build up in the soil. Hope that helps! - D

Cool. You took a big cat palm and made two big cat palms. I have a cat palm and I think she is near ready to be split off into two. My question is, I would like a baby cat palm. Should I wait for seeds or propagate and cut one down to size?

I think growing from seeds will take a long time... And some seeds are duds! It's much quicker to divide! ☺️

this video makes me squint (my plant seems very fragile in comparison) but so happy and hopeful at the same time :)

ok I have the same palm and I have always maintained the care to keep it happy and healthy but it ALWAYS ends up growing bleached looking tips to the leaves. A yellowish color regardless of its care or watering schedule. I trim them off and they come back. There is no fungus in any way nor is it sitting in water and it gets the perfect light. They keep coming back. I repotted it this summer and the root system is massive and stark white. They are perfect! How can I get rid of these tips and stimulate more growth? HELP

Wow! Water, soil and light tend to be the biggest issues. And you seem to be addressing them. How about humidity? They love the humid environment. And do you "flush" your plants from accumulated salt build up from time to time? When you repotted, did you shake some of the old soil out? If you put it back into the same pot, did you sanitize the pot and prune off some of the older roots? And what about the soil... not all soil is created equal. How about moving it to a different location? Just make sure it's partial shade, too much sun washes them out. If that still doesn't work, are you able to put it outside? If that doesn't work...it might be the soil. Then, if your temperature permits, you may want to consider planting it in the ground, free it from the pot. I hope you find a solution!

banana peel , used tea leaves, grass clipping are good as fertliser. you can remove a part of existing soil and put this fertiliser

what is happening when the tree is spreading (drooping) outwards? Yours is much older and bushier so that makes sense, but I have a 3 ft tall one that won't stand up...? So weird.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I just bought a medium size cat palm plant about a month ago and I live in Ohio. It does good so far, but I’m a little bit worry about how it will survive during the first winter in my home as this is my first indoor palm.

Woohoo!!! Most of the time, I look for two young plants in a pot. In that way, I get two for the price of one! 😁

I want to put this palm in a planter with no holes is that possible? Should I put rocks in the bottom for drainage? You are gangstah lady!
@AnoleGarden2 жыл бұрын
You need drainage holes... otherwise the roots will rot. Another option is to put the palm in a smaller pot (like a black liner pot with drainage holes). And then put that pot on an elevated platform inside a (nicer) bigger pot with no drainage holes. Hope that helps!
