Appreciating that you mentioned your location in upper Manhattan-it's helpful since I'm just outside the city myself. I've realized that following advice from those in Florida might not have been ideal for my situation, especially regarding potting media and other aspects. So, I've been on the lookout for someone in the hobby who shares our climatic conditions.

This is very true. I garden in Florida and our seasons are not the same as just about everywhere else in the US.

@@Engwadur agreed! The heavier moss I use here may not work over there unless the conditions are indoors in a heavily air conditioned (and dry) room I think.

I started 😂when you started talking about not being gentle with the root system as I now have the same thoughts with vigorous plants. I think we all learn that orchids are more resilient than we think during a repot. They. The look great and will keep an eye 👁️ out for that bloom later this year ❤🌸

I'm glad to hear you've opted not to spend hours on the repots anymore, it just isn't that necessary in most cases. Half the time I don't even bother removing old media anymore unless it comes off easily.

I guess the more you have the longer it takes and now it's like, just wanting to do as few repots as possible 😂😂 I'm going to try to do a bunch tomorrow. Too many are far gone and they were repotted early spring 2022 and going crazy 😭

I relate so much to being less careful with roots as you advance into orchid growing 😂. One of the aspects I appreciate about your channel. Most of the time it's helpful to be careful yet if it's a vigorous hybrid it will probably be fine.

Sorry I'm fairly new to orchids, I'm not familar with "blasting", "Root dumping", and "back bulbs". Context wise are back bulbs ones that has flowered? is root dumping when the orchid drops roots for new ones?
@NicoleDeanna7 ай бұрын
Back bulbs are older bulbs that have been with the orchid a long time, they may have flowered previously but will not and just serve to provide energy for the orchid. Blasting is when the orchid has buds but instead of blooming they sadly dry off and never flower, it happens when the temps change drastically or if they get dehydrated. You're correct with root dumping :)

@@NicoleDeanna thank you so much, I’m learning that the Orchid hobby can be pretty in depth. I come from back yard gardening and some vegetable families are extremely diverse too. Like tomatoes and peppers.

Nicole, it is a very useful video. ❤ Do you repot orchids immediately when you get them from nurseries. I have recently received my order from SVO. the plants look great and they do not seem to have overgrown their pots. Do I need to repot them anyway?
@NicoleDeanna9 ай бұрын
I used to repot them right away but I find its better to wait for them to acclimate to your conditions and get them when you see new roots coming in. Happy growing :)))

For some reason, when repotting plants, refilling the new pot with medium is the part that kinda stresses me out. I get afraid that I accidentally left a large void of air somewhere in the pot. 🤷♂️

@harehhearas70549 ай бұрын
I‘m 99% sure that it was just multiple plants in one pot, the part that „broke away“ naturally was just one separate plant. The bigger division might be multiple plants as well. It also explains why there are no blooms at that size. This is really common, I buy „blooming size“ plants and it’s just four seedlings stuffed into one pot…
@NicoleDeanna9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I actually have a picture of it from when I repotted it in March of 2022 and it only had 4 canes. It's a vigorous one. It had two buds that blasted as a result of it drying out too fast.
