Here are three common terms you will hear when following a resistance training program. Understand the basics so you can navigate any program like a pro!
👉Reps - One rep, or repetition, is a single movement, such as a single bicep curl. Workouts will typically call for a range of reps to be completed, for example, "perform 8-12 reps". This simply means performing 8-12 total bicep curls in sequence.
👉Sets - When you complete your group of 8-12 bicep curls, this is a "set". Often, you will be prescribed to complete 3-4 sets of each exercise. Between each set, you will want to take a rest.
👉Rest - The rest period you take in between sets is necessary so that you can take a break and prepare for the next set of work. Don't underestimate the power of resting! Use a timer so that your program stays at the appropriate time and intensity.
