Wow, someday i hope to be able to get a zen habitat for my chameleons to achieve the chimney effect. I love your design! One thing i know is your open to criticism and i admire that in a youtuber. The only thing i would change is the fake plants, just because chameleons sometimes may have the tendency to chew on leaves especially veileds! I just want the best for your new cham! Congrats on your new cham Tricia wishing you all the best 💕💕💕💕

Just writing this because I’ve seen other new keepers and even experienced ones who have had their chameleons choke on fake leaves from trying to drink from it and accidentally biting a piece off i use a lot of pothos, wandering jew, umbrella, money plants to give the sides more foliage, and for the main tree i like to go with an established dracaena or a fiddle leaf fig that fits your enclosure this also helps a lot with humidity

I am so excited for you! ❤🦎❤ The enclosure is so beautiful, I love the zen habitats wood look! I planning to slowly start putting my animals in zen habitats. I plan to do my crested gecko first in the 2'×2'×2', as he is in a 18"×18"×18" exo terra and is really ready for an upgrade. I hope they come out with a 2'×2'×16" as I want to put my terrestrial geckos in zens but I dont have space for the 4'×2'×2's.

I actually have an idea for you that I’ll be doing soon! So I’m going to be getting a 4x2x16 and putting a divider in the center! Then on either side it will be an aft gecko! Just an idea. Zen doesn’t swell dividers, but I’ll be using the extra piece of acrylic that came with this enclosure for it!

Congrats, your new chameleon will be in great hands with you (and Frams Chams is an amazing breeder, too)! There are some changes/suggestions I have for you, though: For adding more live plants, definitely add a schefflera arboricola in, it’ll provide tons of foliage and branches and is heavy enough to support your cham once he gets bigger, along with adding a pothos or philodendron in to that empty top corner, as well, and any more you want to add! The more live plants, the better! Just make sure all plants are properly cleaned off before putting them in the enclosure, and make sure that the humidity levels are still in the proper ranges with the added plants (50-60% during the day and up to 100% at night), though! If your humidity levels don’t get too high, try to do all live plants, it’s much better for the chameleon to drink water from, hide in, get humidity pockets, and more! Also make sure that the bamboo sticks you have in the cage are rough enough for your future chameleon to grip onto. If they aren’t, just hit them with some rough sandpaper to add some more texture. The more live plants, vines (preferably all real, just absolutely no moss vines or Exo Terra vines, they cause health issues!), and branches of multiple diameters and species (just no moss-covered dowels or branches from toxic or sap-producing trees!) the better, too! And don’t worry about losing him in the cage, chameleons in the wild hatch out and find food no problem! The more foliage and cover the better, actually, because he’ll feel safer and actually be more visible once he adjusts to his new home! I would definitely move his cage away from the window, unless it is energy-efficient, because it can cause big temperature changes! If you move him, see if you can raise his cage up, too, it’ll make everything easier! Also make sure he cannot see his reflection in his cage doors! That can stress him to death! And try to make sure that he can’t see any other colorful or (especially) bigger/predator animals, that can stress him to death, too! I would definitely add a drainage system under and on the outside of his cage, he’ll need it! Chameleons’ cages need to be misted a MINIMUM of 2-5+ minutes or longer every single time for their daytime mistings, which should preferably only be twice a day, in the morning and at night, when his cage is cooler (if the humidity levels let it go that long in between mistings). Fogging at night also helps tons with natural hydration! Just make sure you use ONLY a cool-mist fogger/humidifier and only if it is LESS THAN 68*F AT NIGHT! If you do fog, make sure to clean out the fogger/humidifier, and tubes (if it comes with any- if they are the crinkly kind, replace them with something smooth-sided, like aquarium tubing or PVC pipes), and any other accessories used thoroughly and often! Nighttime temps should always be below 68*F, but preferably closer to 65*F or lower, as well! Definitely read through every single module and the panther species profile, as well as listen to as many podcasts as possible, from The Chameleon Academy, as they have the most accurate and up-to-date info on chameleons! They also have an amazing safe-plant module and chart! You’ll also need to raise your heat and UVB bulbs and fixtures off of the screen top, as younger chameleons love to screen climb (and it’ll be even easier with the rough background to climb to the top)! You’ll want to make sure the screen top of the cage doesn’t go over 87*F MAX (preferably not over 85*F!) and the UVI level is under 6 at the top, as well! His basking temps at his age should be closer to 80*F than 85*F max, measured with a digital thermometer with a probe, with the probe placed where his casque/top of his back is when he’s on his basking branch, as well as the UVI level being 3 there, too! Having at least 3 digital thermometer-hygrometer combos will be super helpful, too! Place one near his basking branch at the top of his cage, one in the middle of his cage, and one at the bottom. If you get more combos than that, you can place them wherever the humidity pockets will be in the cage! Digital infrared temp guns, like yours, are actually more for spot checking random things and shouldn’t be used to measure basking temps! Make sure to put your feeder (whether it be a bowl with lip/edge lid, tall cup, DIY feeder run- Bill Strand has a great video on that here (The Chameleon Academy channel) and on his website (The Chameleon Academy and Chameleon Breeder Podcast), a shooting gallery- large TK Chameleons one or a DIY one, or a Full Throttle Feeders or DIY PVC pipe feeder cup, etc.) in the top third of the cage, and make sure your chameleon can stand close to it on a branch, too, if you use one. The Chameleon Forums website has a great updated safe and healthy gutload charts and a great healthy and safe feeder bug chart, too, along with tons of great DIY drainage systems, lots of help, and accurate info if needed, as well! Good luck, this must be super exciting for you! Edit: Also, make sure you have an experienced chameleon vet to go to! Not just an exotics vet, but one with tons of actual, knowledgeable, and reputable chameleon experience! Once you get your little guy, bring him to the vet to get tested for parasites and x-rays (if needed)! Make sure to drop off at least 2 more fresh fecal samples after that, as well, to make sure no parasites were missed! And if he does have something (hopefully not!), don’t let the vet give him any medicine unless he/she can show you what’s wrong and if the medicine will treat it! Once he gets bigger (unless the vet suggests it at this first appointment, and it is safe for them to do so to your cham), definitely do bloodwork, as well! What supplements, including brand(s) and types, as well as what schedule(s), will you be using? There are actually very few recommended brands, types, and schedules! If you want to let me know, I can help make sure all three (brands, types, and schedules) are correct!
@reptiliangarden
@reptiliangarden 3 жыл бұрын
Omg! You are soooo amazing! Thank you so much for all of your insight. What do you recommend Instead of using a temp gun to measure the basking area? I’d like to add more live plants, the issue is figuring out how to plant them. That’s why I just added fake plants to fill in the space. I may take out the bromeliad and put a schefflera instead since it’s lower down than I anticipated. I’ll keep an eye on the temps when the sun comes in and keep an eye out if he notices his reflection.
@reptiliangarden
@reptiliangarden 3 жыл бұрын
I also love your tip with the bamboo sticks! I actually added some silicone and substrate to some of them for texture, but that could help with grip. I may add some more of that
@emilyk.862
@emilyk.862 3 жыл бұрын
@@reptiliangarden Thanks! A digital thermometer with a probe, with the probe placed where his casque/top of his back is when he’s on his basking branch, is the best for measuring basking temps! I would see if you could move the dracaena over and put the schefflera there, as it’ll be or grow too big to go where the bromeliad is. Something smaller, like a small, or one section of, a ficus benjamina would be good, or a fern, croton, or calathea will work well, too, along with many others! Definitely try to add a vining plant, like a pothos or philodendron in that empty top back left corner, too! Yes, definitely watch the temps, I’d monitor the temps before he arrives, too!
@emilyk.862
@emilyk.862 3 жыл бұрын
@@reptiliangarden Also, what types and brand(s) of supplements will you be using, along with what schedule(s)? And if you’ve planned on using Banba’s (I’m so sorry for your loss!) old supplements (what types, brand(s), and schedule(s) did you use for him if you’re planning to use them with your new cham?), I’d just buy new replacements, as they’ll lose potency over time.

Will you be adding larger branches when it grows? Those thin bamboo sticks at the top are not ideal for an adult panther to spend most of their time on. Branch variety is extremely important and once he grows large branches by basking would be better suited! Looking forward to seeing the little guy
@reptiliangarden

Definitely! I thought I was getting a tiny baby at first which is why I have a lot of the bamboo for now. I have some thick branches, but I’ll definitely add more if needed. I’m hearing they can have a hard time gripping the bamboo now too, so I’m thinking I’m going to have to switch that out really soon. 😅
