Republic Services After The Game: Fresno State Football Season 2017

Ever since the late 90s, BFI, Allied Waste, and now Republic Services has held on tight to the Fresno State Athletics Division contract. Numerous RFPs have gone out within the 20+ years but no other hauler seems to want this unique contract. For all the football home games the Bulldogs play, Republic Services is there the morning after (usually 7AM on Sunday) working hard to empty all the trash. Presented here is the aftermath of all the home football games this season. There are over 400 carts that need to be emptied in under 3 hours, and it's not the easiest task, but Ray and Ralph knock it out in no time.
I would like to give a huge shout out and thank you to the drivers behind the wheel, Ray in the sideloads 2419 and 2420 and Ralph in 1244. Ray has been with Republic for 32+ years and has seen It all. He's been around for some major changes including the Allied Waste merger, the Republic merger, and was the first driver to test out automated recycle when Clovis rolled it out back in 2008. It was great learning and tagging along with him on route and I wish him luck in retirement this year. Until then, you can find him driving his organics route in Clovis continuing on the friendships with many of his customers. Ralph is also a great driver and has seen it all too, probably becasue he works literally 365 days a year. A huge thank you goes out to both of you guys!!!

Awesome video Republic has something kinda similar to this here on Oregon. They collect all he trash from the Oregon State Beaver games. Loved the way the drivers operated!

Man you don't upload often but sure know how to bring the heat when you do. Can really appreciate the effort and thoughtfulness that went into this video. What a strange way of doing this, yet effective? Wonder what the cost looks like, obviously this many carts is more expensive but the lack of internal staff having to manage all the waste and consolidate to roll offs / compactors where they pay by weight. Makes me wonder how asu accomplishes this task now that republic handles their needs after buying out their contracted hauler (Sonoran Waste)

Thank you!! I appreciate it! I agree it is pretty unique how Republic handles this contract. I know the cost is pretty up there since they are literally renting a side load truck for 5 hours on a Sunday and have to pay tonnage for disposal on top of the front load bins there. That would be interesting to see how ASU does it compares to Fresno State. Thanks again!

Wow, you can tell Republic has put in a lot of effort to take care of this event. I was impressed to see that they had taken the time to have holes cut into the top of almost all the carts. No wonder no other company has been able to take the contract! I still find it so strange how anti-RHD Republic is. Was really surprised to see that the Autoreach was a dual drive truck...strange lol. The in cab shots were awesome. I miss riding in the trucks. That clip with all the carts lined up at 1:11:31 was great. Really demonstrated how many carts they need over here. Would have been so awesome to see BFI taking care of this place haha. Do they use roll off boxes at all over here? Might've missed seeing on in the video but I'm so used to seeing roll off bins and lots of dumpsters at events like this, hardly ever see them using carts and a resi truck to clean up events like this. Great video & thanks for taking the time to film all this!

Thanks! All of the resi trucks in the yard are dual drive. Ray was telling me that he felt that switching over from RHD to LHD is actually more dangerous and didn't like doing it, but has to on route. Surprisingly they do not use roll off boxes which I think is strange (not to mention probably SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper) It's just the 400+ carts and the 6 dumpsters. Thanks for watching Aaron!

Thank you! Haha thanks, when I saw that cart, I knew I had to get it on film. No recycling goes on here which is really a shame as it would be really easy on Fresno States end, but hard on Republics end (They don't have a recycle truck on Sundays) Carts are stored in the stadium against the fence during the off months, mid November to August.
