Republic Services Manual Trash in Seal Beach - Part 1

In Seal Beach, residential trash collection is mainly automated, or in part of the city, semi-automated. But there is this one small strip of beachfront homes along a one-way alley which receive twice-a-week manual collection using traditional style trash cans. Property owners of multi-unit buildings can also choose to use a commercial bin instead. This is the same truck I filmed last fall collecting carts in the narrow alleys, this time with it's usual crew. This small route is collected as part of a commercial load on Mondays, and residential on Thursdays. The odd catch to the one-way alley, is that the crew has to travel the opposite way since the truck cannot make a proper right turn at the alley's end. The bin used as the bucket for manual collection is borrowed from the first building with commercial service and brought back at the end of the route. However, since the Thursday area is semi-automated alleys, they bring a proper bucket with tippers. Big thanks goes to Javier & James for the video....and parts 2 & 3. Comment and rate please.

At the time, everything was recycled. This load was taken to CR Transfer (CR&R) for sorting. The crew then began dumping at Rainbow Transfer & Recycling five days a week due to them being a Republic company. Rainbow no longer sorts through regular trash, so none of this material gets recycled anymore, as of today. Giving even more reason for the Long Beach yard to streamline the collection process.

Awesome! Like how they had a big dumpster instead of a carry can lol. Crew seemed really cool too, like how they kinda played catch at the end with the cans. Can't wait to see the next parts!

Never knew Consolidated had this little tiny manual route! Awesome! Really like how they use a commercial bin, for a carry can! Really love these WXLL McNeilus FL's some of the last WXLL made before the ACX, and was stoked Consolidated Disposal bought some! Lot of Rubbermaid Roughneck cans! Love it! The crew seemed super laid back and chill! Can't wait to see more Consolidated Disposal from you, Tristen! Funny Crystal was telling that's all she ever sees is Republic Services Anaheim and Consolidated Disposal anymore. Anyways, this goes to the fav list! Great work man, and superb quality! :D

This quite ingenious idea on Consolidated's part since they can do this alley all in one collection, however a 2 yard bin would be much easier for the crew nevertheless great video! .

Consolidated still here in Whittier CA. I was told the recently that the contract was up and they may not service our area anymore. City of Whittier will still have their trucks collect regular trash.

+Arturo Valdez I'm sure you've already heard, but the city has decided to privatize their trash service to Athens, who will also be replacing Republic in July '16.

+Sanitation94 Yeah I heard about that deal because I live on the west side of Whittier(which impacts me). I have been a resident for 16 years and it will be different not seeing consolidated or republic. I know Athens is a good company and the transition goes smoothly.

Really cool catch. Its always awesome to see these big companies be willing to do whatever they to do and compromise to get the job done. These are small routes but seem to be somewhat complicated to get done but the methods they use with FLs and even borrowing commercial dumpsters works great. Has Consolidated always serviced these routes or were these old Newport routes? Good job and thanks for the video.

+Raul Frescas Thanks. Yes, this is Seal Beach (seen in the beginning). Consolidated has served this city since the previous hauler, Briggeman Industries, merged with them. The crew does bulk waste in another area on Thursdays so they have to bring an actual bucket with them anyway.
