My dad was a union guy and he said half the guys listened to Rush Limbaugh on the radio and the other half read the union paper at lunch and my understanding has always been that working class voters have been trending conservative because of cultural issues so I can understand why O'Brien wants to flirt with the Republicans. They want to rebrand themselves as the working class party but other than trade, what union-supported-polices are they willing to back? I'm skeptical but I also think this speech likely played well with Trump's base, even if the corporate types in the room felt uncomfortable. Of course, I don't want Trump to win this race, but this was smart politics as far as I am concerned.
