I highly recommend you check out the expansion to 1404: Venice as well! It adds a new NPC AI: the Venetian (what a shocker), a bunch of very fun scenarios, an array of new ornamental structures, a council system (it's like buying share in islands in 1800), & an espionage system. It is a full proper expansion that's worth it cost too!

I just played the game in the last month and, yea, as someone who is quite serious about music, the soundtrack is really good. - It's kinda weird, because part of it sounds like your "generic videogame music", and it's also made by this kind of generic music-studio (so it's not like it's by a single composer or anything), but it's actually very well-made music with actual live recordings. - One of the first tracks on the standalone soundtrack goes really hard. The first one you hear from the game as well, the one with the intro-video. But the one called 'Bow to the King' is like... geez, calm down! - If "epic" needed to have an example, it would be that track.

I love the fact that between scenarios we started on new, little more advanced island, prepared by game makers, so we could forget about mistakes we made from the simple beginning and countinue the story. It hase 2 cons although: farm fields are not 1x1 but larger so we cannot get space effective, and warfare is too complicated, requires land invasion and extra proviant. I also like the fact that it uses only one map, so its easier to manage and keep an eye on.

I just started playing this game last month, in April 2023, because I got it for free somewhere down the line, and I also thought it was probably a good one to start off with, because it's not too old, and I wanted to at least play one of the older ones before jumping into 1800, which I was more interested in. - I got hooked, to say the least, cause when there's a resource-management and building game that is good, I will keep coming back. - I do have some criticisms, though... One of the more critical things being the fact that things aren't explained well enough. Although, then I did probably play the wrong mode first, which I think was the Campaign (which I chose simply because it's at the top in the main menu), in which they expect you to do a lot of things very quickly. But because it was going from chapter to chapter, and it went from simpler to more complex stuff, I thought it was basically the tutorial. However, in the Scenarios mode, you actually get more explanation with little information-panes that pop up when something new is introduced. - So it totally screwed me over and I didn't know a lot of the things, such as "passive trade", which is probably why I couldn't get through the last chapter in even 4 tries. Other than that, it's smaller things. Like the notifications, as the AI players keep yapping on about things, especially when you move to different locations or they come to trade with you. The goal basically becomes to get them to shut up, as it's so repetitive. Similarly for whenever buildings stop working, which is just hard to balance, as the solution often isn't that simple. And the norias for water... you just get spammed with the messages that they're about to run out or have run out, even when using the large ones, because you end up with so many of them, even when placing them efficiently. - Speaking of moving around, it does become exhausting jumping back and forth between locations, trying to juggle everything, PLUS quests in between. I know that's the challenge, but it's a bit much in that it becomes annoying. That said, eventually things calm down and it feels like it pays off in a way. It's really a brain-straining kind of game in that sense, which... I enjoy, I need that stimulation once in a while, but it also starts feeling like "work", and it's not something you play to really relax after actual work or something like that (unless you are further into the game where things are set up and you have little to worry about), more when you're rested and clear and up for a challenge.

I recently bought 1404 with venice ofc on steam as an old veteran and started of with the scenario "karge küste" something like "arid coast" I think you have almost no fertility and have to build a cathedral as an endgoal it's just really amazing how it's totally possible to get enough wares by trade taxes and trade in general in this game aaand this is ultimately what made me realize what the new anno games are lacking: custom missions with unique maps and/or circumstances I mean sure the main game is what's best about the games but these additional challenges not only were really interesting, they also helped you learn different mechanics of the game and made you use them (like trade taxes I would've never used much otherwise) also the unlockable titles, portraits etc. were much more engaging than what 1800 offers (again that's not what makes the games good but to me it's a major step-back)

I grew up in such a farm after the Salazar period in Portugal, all we had was a small store with various goods which provided everything to various farms around. I learned how to read and write in that farm as well as a kid, it wasn´t until I came to Denmark as an 11 year old that I started attending school. We are talking about the late 1970s here :), things have changed a lot in Portugal since then.

It didn’t get much traction until about 2006 about the time that 1701 was making an amazing launch which broke many sales records. I think that may be why I was so off with my comment. It takes longer to build up honor points, but you can still get honor by trading with the Lord and with the Vizier, and by upgrading your population. I like that you can play without battles and military campaigns, as I generally find them annoying as I prefer to focus on keeping my population happy and wealthy, and keeping supply chains from breaking down.

I started with 1701 when i was 7 , got 2070 with 10 , 1404 with 12 , 2205 with 13 and now 1800 with 16 and somewhere between also 1503. I just cant decide which one is the best because the series haunts me through over half my life. If its the nostalgia with 1701 or the very cool production chains of 2070 or the objectivly best one 1800. I never really like 1400 that much because it overlaps parts with 1701 and 2070 which i both played before but no doubt that its a good game

Hey, check out the Venice Addon and reconsider, it the Multiplayer Aspect of 1800 lives up to past standards. I just love to gather a friend and play ANNO together with him as one Player. It is the one thing ANNO 1800 definitively lacks.

Anno 1404 is one of those games i've always loved and even though the game is 10 years old the game still looks fantastic, it's just sad that there are still some bugs that disappointingly break the game whenever they happen. A good example is the memory bug, so if you have played one of your sandbox playthrough for a long time eventually the game says it doesn't have enough memory so you need to restart, truth is however that the game doesn't recognise you restart the game, so at upmost you can play for 10 mins after you've restarted till the message pops up again. Leaving the game running with this message can and will eventually crash your game if you don't restart. Still even though this and multiple other bugs exist i definitely think its one of the better anno's ever brought out

I realized how well your videos have transformed especially your quality and commentating. You do a lot of research and get the facts right Honestly one day youre going to have a greater following on youtube. Keep it up. If you dont mind me asking, I am getting into youtube just finishing Uni. I want to make TW and other strategy gaming videos. I would really like to know what kind of mic and video recording software you use. I want an idea for a budget so I can start buying equipment.

I like Anno, but I just wish they could make a proper remake of Patrician 3. I know pretty much no one played this game outside of Germany and Eastern Europe, but it's a really decent economic RTS that in many ways preceded modern versions of Anno (Patrician 3 was released in 2000) and had a really unique focus on trade as you controlled a person (as opposed to a city) who had to climb up the social ladder by trading between the different Hanseatic cities. And you could eventually progress up to being a Mayor of any of the cities in the game, from London to Novgorod too. Shame the series died in early 2000-s and they only made one more game in like 2010 which was just a remake of Patrician III with (crappy) 3D graphics

Totally agree, after all those years 1404 is still highly playable. One of the timeless games I know besides Half life. But you need the Venice expansion pack, get it on steam you cant go wrong with it. But beware of the CDKeys and other game key suppliers. The key might be legit, but not how the gamekeys are obtained.
@RepublicOfPlay6 жыл бұрын
i’ve done extensive research into cdkeys. I do not endorse, support or use sites like kinguin, g2a or many others, but cdkeys track record is clean, and having worked at a AAA company before, we had no keys unaccounted for from them. This is why I affiliated with them.

honestly i prefer this and Anno 2070's system of not needing roads or population to produce goods. What they did in 1800 games like Tropico already did better. this just makes 1800 more micromanagement-y

Anno 1404 is the best, however, it has a severe memory leak and crashes in long games. It also has a glitch where a giant stick figure is seen through you city sometimes.

Some series become stale and get old. Not the Anno series, they are truly great. My favorites are 1503, 1404, and 1800. Looking forward to were Anno goes next! Maybe 1206, 1107 for a medieval game. Or even a 504 BC or 405 BC for a Greek colony Anno game.
@sanchezking6188 Жыл бұрын
Somehow the Anno series always flew past me, even though I generally enjoy this genre. So I finally got 1404 in about 2020-ish and loved it since. Very recently I also got 1800 and it’s cool, but it’s no 1404. Factually 1800 might even be a better game, unsurprising with 10 years development time between them, but subjectively 1404 is the „nicer“ and more enjoyable game. It just is the San Andreas of the Anno series.

Hey! I’m not sure that you’ll see this and I don’t fully know how to explain my question but I was wondering if you knew of a game with a historical theme that allows you to just build an empire and not have to battle an AI?? Or if you do battle, it’s relatively straight forward. I don’t know if that makes sense but I’d love to build a world with a cool historical theme behind it and take as long as I want and not have to worry about being set back to 0 in the event of ultimately losing to the AI :)
