Your "do-overs" are my favorite of your videos. Most of us have something that we look back and say what was I thinking? Your inspiring videos allow us to make it right.

Thanks, Gail! I’m so glad you enjoy the “do-overs”! I love giving those pieces a second chance and discovering their hidden potential. 😊

All my canvases need to be repurposed as I've never once did a painting I've been happy with! And I'm completely serious! 😂 Your piece certainly looks like it's transforming into a landscape. It's given me the idea to use the tape to create a stone circle similar to what we find here in Scotland. A thin transparent wash might've created a different atmosphere.
@chrisloudart6 ай бұрын
I have close to 20 canvases/wood panels with paintings I'm not happy with sitting in a corner ready to be reworked. We all have them. I love painting over ones that didn't work out the first time. They usually end up with wonderful textures and much more character. A wash is a great idea! Let me know how using tape to create the stone circle goes-love that idea!

I think this is a brilliant tutorial on how to make an expanse of black look interesting. As I beginner found it really inspirational

Nice stuff going on here. Thanks for your continued sharing. Watching others always helps with recharging depleted motivation. I realize you are not using charcoal to make explicitly drawn lines in this video, but I thought I'd share something I have been enjoying lately. I apply a thin layer of Liquitex clear gesso (a recent acquisition, I've not tried other brands), which has a great, gritty texture and leaves a nice tooth for charcoal and/or soft pastel. I am then able to apply lines, then, depending upon what effect I hope to achieve, fixing those lines in various ways, such as with either a thin smear of matte medium and a palette knife, or spraying it with high flow medium in a little spray bottle. Each has a different effect. Happy holidays, and, once again, thank you for your continued sharing.

Hey Sybil! Your appreciation means a lot to me😊 I haven't played with clear gesso yet, but you've given me more reasons to give it a try. I do some art where I use charcoal, graphite and pastels for lines, so this sounds right up my ally for something new to play with. Thank you for the suggestion!

@@chrisloudart Please keep the videos going. You have a God given talent, a natural talent that feeds the soul of every artist who aspires to be as creative and talented as you are. Chris, I’ve watched many art teachers over all these years and many of them have great technique to share, but Chris…no one compares to you. No one stands out the way you do, you simply have a rare and special gift that feeds the soul of every artist who watches you. We all owe you deep gratitude for all that you give to us. Thank you for sharing. Great ideas for mark making. I like the final result. I do love the greys, but whenever I try it I end up putting a colour spot in at the end. I just can't help it 🤷🏼♀️😉

Thank you, Brigit! I agree-it is difficult to not add a splash of color. Luckily on these I had just enough bits of the underpainting color peeking through (not easy to see on the video) to satisfy that need.😊

Off hand I'd say you're in good company with Francisco Goya, 1819 to 1823 the black paintings. Ad Reinhardt who after 1953 painted only black canvases. Pierre Soulages abstract french painter who for more than 40 years painted only black canvases he died at 102 years old Oct 26 2022.
@chrisloudart9 ай бұрын
Thanks, Nicole! That is quite flattering, but I'm not sure I'd go that far. Thanks 🙏 for bringing Soulages to my attention. I was unfamiliar with him, but have been going through some of his artwork and ❤️ LOVE it! Makes me want to readjust my day and focus on black and white.

Don’t you need to fix the charcoal layer?
@chrisloudart Жыл бұрын
Hey Barbara! Great question. Normally yes, I would fix the charcoal before I started adding more paint. Since I was playing and wanted to be able to manipulate the charcoal as I went, I didn't fix it until I felt it was finished.😊
