June Brown as Dot proving again what an amazing actress she is here. We know how well she does the nosy and also the hyperventilating over-excitement over things, but at moments like this, she's so heart-stirringly tragic. She really did care about a whole load of people, despite her bible bashing ways .

@@robertprees603 I definitely felt the same way after Kathy rejected her. But then after Donna died, her adoptive father told Kathy about Donna's previous drug abuse and stealing his checks. All this made me wonder if the scriptwriters had to come up with a way of turning the audience back into liking Kathy and wrote this new Donna backstory after she died. Donna did a lot to alienate herself. She was insensitive to the fact that she was conceived of a rape when Kathy was only 14, she imposed herself on Kathy and flirted with Ian to pressurise Kathy into telling him that Donna is his half sister. Now come on, that is pretty messed up. I remember an episode where Kathy said to Pete that she tried to like Donna but couldn't at all and I can't blame her, even though I feel sorry for Donna for all the trauma she faced and how men like Wicksy used her.

We'll be nearing to this episode in over a month's time as we might be nearing into 1989 in mid May after the 1988 episodes have been done, as we are already to reach the 90s by when mid July comes around on Drama. As 1989's biggest storylines include Den Watts's first death attempt at a canal as he wouldn't been seen again until another 14 years after being released from prison, having filmed these scenes over four months ago in the autumn of 1988 due to Leslie Grantham was offered a role in his upcoming drama The Paradise Club, the other main storyline of 1989 was Pat and Frank's wedding. So Donna's death episode might be aired on Drama in over a month away from now as part of a double bill where the sequence of episodes are still Thursday and Tuesday episodes, so this may be the second to air in a lunchtime slot at 1.40pm sliced in with the 13th of April 1989 episode which would be aired first...

Don't be ridiculous. ALL the characters from the 80s pretty much, plus many of the 90s (until the show died roundabout 2002) were cool. Clearly, you're no fan and don't appreciate great drama. Not High School Musical enough for you? No wannabee 'zombies' and poncy Marvel superzeros?
@CathyKitson5 жыл бұрын
@@kyachdistent1301 WTF? WHY do you have to be so f****** AGGRESSIVE??? I stated my opinion, that's all. You're entitled to yours, just as I am mine. As for "High School Musical" - I've never watched it; I don't even know if it's on TV here. And I don't know what you're referring to by "wannabee zombies or poncy Marvel superzeros". I assume you mean "superheros", and I don't watch them - I watch real horror flicks and series, not "wannabee" ones. I like the early Eastenders a lot, although I wouldn't call it "great drama". I said Dot was the only TRULY good character. Other characters are OK and sometimes good things. I suggest that if you can't discuss things properly or stop attacking strangers because they dare to disagree with your exalted opinions, you shut the hell up.
@kyachdistent13015 жыл бұрын
@@CathyKitson How is that aggressive? And all I'm doing is referring to what everyone in the US seems to deign the only popular thing to like at the exclusion of all else! I suggest you shut the hell up because I only replied to a comment that's thoroughly off-base and lacking clarity too. "Truly good". As in what? Christian beliefs? Charity? Worrying about others more than herself? Do you mean the actress is the only good actress out of the lot? I know what you said-TRULY you repeat? Meaning WHAT?! I don't why you wouldn't call it good drama. Good drama seems to be lacking in just about anything everywhere. I suggest before YOU get prickly, you understand fully why someone comments the way they do if you don't make your meaning clear. Way too many of this type being twats when they could just avoid simple mistakes, and stop reading insults into things that aren't there-THAT'S when you get others' backs up!
@CathyKitson5 жыл бұрын
@@kyachdistent1301 Omg here she goes again. 3 months later. _"How is that aggressive?"_ The whole tone of your first post was unbelievably hostile, as was your second. It sounds as if you don't even realise you ARE being aggressive! I think Dot is a truly good woman. She has her faults, but she is forgiving and compassionate and quick to repent when she does something wrong. If you disagree with me, that's fine, but you don't have to go on and on as if I've insulted you personally. You can't just say: "I disagree with you, and here's why", can you? Most of the other characters have serious personality flaws, although they're all capable of doing good things from time to time, and some are better than others. Andy, Colin, Ethel are some of the nicer ones. But you only have to look at Michelle, Ian, Cindy, Den, Nick, Ali and Mr Karim to see exactly what I mean. No, it's not good drama, although I freely admit I'm addicted to it. It takes no brains or effort to follow it and is a bit like having a cigarette in that it relaxes you. It's trite and completely predictable. The protagonists sometimes change character overnight. Talking about getting people's backs up, have you looked in a mirror recently?
@kyachdistent13015 жыл бұрын
@@CathyKitson There's just no point in talking to you, you talk crap! You're the one coming of a prick here, all right. No point in expanding your point about Dot now, you should have done it before, made your meaning clear. Thought you'd identify with personality flaws seeing as your dodgy online presence is more than a little bit aggravating and preachy, self-important and tetchy. The list of serious personality flaws on the characters you mention-that is par for the course in every soap, every film, every TV show ever made and it's been the reigning feature in just about everything since the 80s. You say it's not a good drama, but what the hell are you comparing it to? It's a serial that was (till 1994) on twice a week and needed a hell of a lot of balls in the air, now and again some drop. The biggest problem was so many of the cast leaving before the 80s was over. Andy, Tony, Lofty, Mary, Debbie, Naima, Angie, Den, Colin, Barry, Sue, Ali, Matthew and Carmel all disappeared before 1989 closed up and the intriguing new bunch introduced in 1989 to try make up for it were then dumped unceremoniously in 1990! If it takes no brains to follow it, why ARE you? When so many witless shows and films and music are churned out of the US every minute, that's a bit rich. ? You're telling me you can guess what EVERY character says, feel, thinks and does in EVERY scene EVERY episode?! Trivial stuff?! So cot death, AIDS, affairs, broken marriages, domestic abuse, rape, racism, homophobia, prostitution, unidentified fathers, duplicitous spouses, loss of business premises etc. are all TRIVIAL matters. I really don't know what show you're talking about but it can't be this one. If you mean the thing that still keeps the name as though it's the same and churned on since 2003 then yes it's all you say and far far worse, in that it has no identity at all and utterly pointless. The character changes you mention, again you name no names so not helpful. I know for a fact, due to some negative press (or a heightened awareness when watching the show back) some characters did have overbearing traits toned down somewhat, but often when writers change on a show, they do what they like with the character and blow to what they were. It's in the name of keeping them fresh sometimes, but other times it implodes as it makes no sense. It's a pity you couldn't have made all these points and explained yourself before being so wrong-footed in approach to a response in what I felt was a slight on the show. If you take a show when it was at its best and state baldly "Dot's the only truly good character" of course that'll get a negative response, but that doesn't mean an attack! I think you'll find many would do the same, but then youtube's full of twerps that never seem to understand just what they write and then what to reply to!
