Wowie thankyou. Your experiments are so fun to watch. Your experiments gave me a bit of a theory. The more drying the liquid you use like the rubbing alcohol or acetone the more sand like it crumbles. So what if you used something more bubbly like seltzer water? Would it crumble like the hydrogen peroxide mixture?

What I find fascinating is how fast the chalk dehydrates. It's unfortunate that rubbing alcohol isn't cheaper. However, I did a quick search on the all-knowing Google and it appears that alcohol also makes water dehydrate quicker. Something about how the alcohol molecules disrupt the "magnetic" force between the water molecules so that they need less energy to evaporate. Depending on how the ratio of alcohol to water affects the overall cost, this could be a great way to speed up gym chalk drying times. Thanks for this experiment.
