First movie scene ever to make me cry. Phenomenal acting. The fact that she didn't get an award for this movie is a joke.

I love the way she introduces the scene. She starts being very happy because her only relative comes to visit her. Then, slowly, she explain the heartbreaking story she hides. Wonderful!!

from IMDB During Ellen Burstyn's impassioned monologue about how it feels to be old, cinematographer Matthew Libatique accidentally let the camera drift off-target. When director Darren Aronofsky called "cut" and confronted him about it, he realized the reason Libatique had let the camera drift was because he had been crying during the take and fogged up the camera's eyepiece. This was the take used in the final print.

Really tough scene, touching and cathartic. Ellen Burstyn should have won the Oscar for this film.

This movie ripped out my soul and curbstomped it into the ground. The first time I saw it, I literally didn't say a word for the next hour and it occupied my thoughts for weeks afterwards. Everybody in it put in amazing performances, but Ellen Burstyn's in particular was simply legendary. I completely forgot I was watching somebody act.

I just wanted during the whole movie to hug her and save her, she's such a lovely and innocent person. And of course, she deserved that Oscar. Love Julia, but this performance it's historic.

One the most well written and acted scenes in history. It hits a little to close to home. How lonely we become when we lose everybody. How fucked up drug abuse can become. In the beginning she seemed like such a sweet lady and by the end she completely lost her mind. Does anybody know if she did actually get that call by that Juice show or if they were scamming her? I always thought she was getting scammed with how hyped up her mailing the letter was.

One of the best performances I have ever seen, it is unbelievable the Academy would be so absurdly superficial and offer the award to the most popular actress!

Definitely the most powerful scene in the film. I rarely cry during movies, but this scene had me balling.

Seriously. There are a lot of good actors and actresses out there, but very few will ever give a performance as heart-wrenching as this one.

never, ever, in the history of time, has a person portrayed an emotion/character so beautifully...julia roberts winning for playing a lawyer that only cared about her paycheck means nothing to me, this scene is the most moving thing i've ever seen ellen burstyn wins my award for a lifelong memory..it's something i'll never forget...the last time she sees her son and its all a ruse, there are so many addicts out there...they need to see how they affect other people's lives.

This fucking scene! it always get me when Harry starts crying, you can tell he really really loves his mother and is heartbroken when she reveals the fact that she feels lonely and old, using amphetamines to loose weight and an overall desperation to feel needed/wanted again. so sad :(

This scene is so affecting for me. It was a similar sort of experience with my Mum, from the perspective of Sara Goldfarb, in the months before she died. But even putting that aside, this is such a powerful cinematic scene. The acting (especially!), dialogue, cinematography - all stunning.

This moment makes the whole movie make sense. Human misery has no answer. People need a solution to all of lifes' problem and heroin is a momentary solution. The next scene when he shoots up in the cab is also amazing.

If he had just visited more often like he said he would sara might not have descended into psychosis.
@tyisnt7 жыл бұрын
joemalola yeah but that's the point of the movie, if he would've came and visited, it would've defeated the purpose of the message the director was getting across, and that's that addiction takes over your life, and they all become dependent on those addictions, and they spiral to their lowest points possible, the message was very clear and you're right, but it would've defeated the purpose

Tyler i thought the main idea of the movie was not being addicted to drugs but the death of dreams. Thus why its called Requiem for a dream

At the end I think Harry is blaming himself for his mother taking drugs. Not only was his absence a cause in regards that it forced Sara to cling onto false hopes such as appearing on TV as her only focus in life, but his absence also meant he couldn't intervene. He knows he can't help her problem because he can't even help his own. The tears seize when drugs come back on his mind and he fixes his sight on one thing only, getting the drug.

If anybody has a clue please respond cause that's the only part I never fully got, thnx.

Have you ever noticed that after he leaves she pauses, sighs and then her right hand falls? Up until that point, the movie had kinda been a positive experience albeit with drugs. Once she drops her right hand, the movie nosedives for all of them.
