Rerouted! Train Wreck In Kentucky Brings New Trains To The CV! A First Since 2015!

In todays adventure, we catch an extremely rare scenario; when a train derails on the CC Subdivision in Livingston, Ky, CSX is forced to reroute all of the lines trains elsewhere to keep things running smoothly and on time. Manifests were routed via Nashville, Ethanol through the Clinchfield, and Grain through the CV! Talk about a rare turn of events! Over the course of 3 days, we examine, chase and film a couple of reroutes over the CV.

The drone footage in Loyall yard was exceptional. I set at my desk watching on a 27" HD monitor, with headphones on. When they were cutting the grain train to be tied down, the sound of the slack action echoing through the valley was incredible .. like being there. Actually made the hair raise on my arms at one point. And from this vid I get the wall and the big gates now, with the river just on the other side. Another great production, Micah .. Thanks.

Boy, it's a good thing some upper management folk didn't order some of this unused track ripped out like so many other yards have been. Great video Appreciate you steppin up for us to view some rail roading we would'nt normally see.

The previous CSX CEO was pushing for much of the CV’s removal, however, I’m told Joe Hinrichs is pushing for the rip-ups cancellation

I just love re routes, Ya gotta have a plan B for just this thing. I remember years back when there was a big derailment over on the Birmingham side ; we got MEGA trains over on the W&A . they ran on each others markers all day long. GREAT VID GUYS !!

I believe the last time they were closed was around 3 years ago, a link to the Ignited Coyotes video provided kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6S3oWCoZq9neZIsi=uSipQD9NKc3k0Gfy This flood was the first time they had to be closed in a few decades, and I don’t believe water made it that far up in the end anyways. I do recall one instance however when something had broken loose and the gates and swung in a bit however

That is a flood wall constructed within a project after a series of floods back around 1967

WOW, that was some very crisp video and drone footage. I'm on my 4th DJI drone and it is so hard to match audio of the scene with the drone footage, since the drones do not record sound. Your sound syncs were very good. Just curious, does CV stand for Cumberland Valley? thanks again, Charlie & Louise in Central Ohio

Indeed it does, Cumberland Valley subdivision! I had to rework the sound a few times but for the most part I got it to match up!

⁠@@railfanmicahturnerI haven’t been to Hagans in many decades. The last time I was in that area was a couple years after they built all those new connections at Big Stone Gap, and everybody started running on everybody else’s railroad! CSX on NS, NS on the former Clinchfield, dog’s sleeping with cats, etc. Is all that still going on, or has coal traffic diminished to the point that it’s all stopped? I’ve heard that all the small mining operations and the majority of the big ones are done, and I’ve wondered specifically about that big prep plant at Appalachia/Andover. That area used to be a destination in the rail fanning community, but what’s left to see in 2023? I noticed the aerial yard views in this vid showed a yard nearly free of coal cars, and I’m sure the same view 20 years ago would have shown a sea of loaded hoppers & coal Gons!
