A man has a heat stroke while dirt biking in the desert. (Note: I don't know the actual title of this segment; 'Dirt biker heat stroke' is just a description).
This segment was taken from Episode 626 which aired March 28, 1996 on CBS.

you'd need a heck of a lot more water than that to keep the core temperature down in the desert in thick armour covering your whole body.

Totally! I'd say maybe around a gallon or more. People don't often realize just how much water you can sweat out.

I was born and raised in the Arizona desert & lived there my first 33 years and they still never learn. People still go hiking in the hot desert sun and still are dying and needing rescued. The heat is very unforgiving.

2 things. 1: Take the guy's gear off. The man is in his personal oven, take the gear off so that he can lose some of that heat. 2: Find a place with clear visibility in both directions and stand IN the road. People are more likely to stop if they think your not just waving at them.

3 months ago I collapsed due to heat stroke...I thought I was dead. The paramedics later told my ex gf(the one I was with at the time) that they were unsure if I was going to make it. For the next month n a half my body was in lots n lots of pain. Heat stroke is no joke, the sun is deadly. I still get weak when I try to do stuff in the sun. Ur body is never the same after suffering from a heat stroke.

I'm hypoglycemic and I still have a case of dropping of the blood sugar in the sun's heat and with the humidity and once I feel light headed I go into my house and I stay there until my blood sugar gets whipped right up again drinking water to help it and I nearly had a heat stroke yesterday in the park and I told my mom "let's go to my grandmother" and she lives two minutes away from my local park.

3:12 - The stepfather's yelling was so unnecessary! All his stepson did was to remain concerned about their dirt bikes being stolen as it is usually wise to bring your belongings home. So, I have to agree with the stepson about not leaving those dirt bikes somewhere out there.

Irritability is a symptom of heat stroke. People who are fixing to have one will most often be very irritable and have mood swings so yeah it's actually understandable that he snapped.
@rainbowunicorn709
@rainbowunicorn709 2 жыл бұрын
@@stolasgoetia93 Ironic because when someone is an ass to me, my sympathy immediately hits zero. Also, I wonder how many people use such things as an excuse to act a certain way. I used to know this guy who was put on steroids once (not the bodybuilder type) to strengthen his immune system and he swore (against logic) that they gave him 'roid rage. Fortunately, this happened to overlap with a couple of weeks during which we hadn't spoken, so I didn't know until afterwards, but he told me that he was snapping on everyone. I told him the truth: he just needed one friend who, if he got too much of an attitude, would punch him and that would fix the irritability. What we tolerate, we encourage.

Every summer here in Arizona we have a lot of people visiting (why IDK 😐), and they are not use to the heat and they decide to go hiking thinking they will be ok if they go early, but they underestimate how hot it gets and how early it gets hot. Most don’t bring enough water and it seems every summer more and more people have to be rescued because of heat stroke or overheating & unfortunately a lot of people die because of it. I wish people would realize that when they ignore the warnings or don’t listen to their bodies, that they are not only putting their own lives in danger, but the lives of the rescue workers as well. It may be a “dry” heat but the sun is so intense it burns through your skin and you can’t even be outside for very long. I’m AZ born and raised and even I cannot handle the heat. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!!

30 years of passed since this happened. At the time my brother Andrew was 9 3/4 turning 10 and we live in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although we were both born and grew up in Arizona, it’s still feels like home to me after all these years. Part of me will always be there and it still is. I grew up in a town called Fountain Hills, which is outside of Phoenix. Paul is 60 and Mike is 43. When I saw what happened to Paul, I was worried.

It’s been 28 years since this happened so Mike is 41 and Paul is 58 now. When I was living in Arizona they were really hot summer days and you want to go to either water park or to a pool at times like that.

There's no "test of manhood" to do activities in heat like that. Having had 6 days in a row above 40c (104f) and one of them 45.7c (114.3f) in Adelaide, it's just stupid to go out in that heat.

I'm making an educated guess that improper hydration had a big thing to do with this accident. If they stopped only every half hr, they weren't stopping nearly enough. They may have only been using water too, that kind of heat with that kind of gear, you need electrolytes--Gatorade. I walk 5-6 miles a day and for every 3 miles, I bring a half-quart of water and 20oz of Gatorade. We had a week of mid-90s heat in July, I doubled the amount of water and gatorade I drank per lap.

@KetchupAndMustard55 The reason you do not move a victim so that you do not make any injury worse or cause them to bleed more. For heat stroke, it's perfectly fine and probably better for the victim to move them, especially if you are moving them out of the sun. Not to mention the danger of leaving a person unconscious in the desert; animals might find him or it might be hard for rescue to find him. He probably did the best thing for his father.
