A fully fueled Dash 9 pulling 150 cars takes 2 miles to stop. Some crossings don't have the equipment needed to alert you to an incoming train. Remember LOOK LISTEN LIVE!

I think these railroads should have the proper equipment at each crossing crossing gates crossing lights and that would prevent accidents like this especially when it's a foggy night like it was here

A car weight around about 3,000 pounds a train can weight more than 15,000 tons.

Always look, listen, and live on all crossings whether it had gates or not and never beat the train or ended up just like what the hell happened to those young teens. Also buckle your safety belt anytime you go anywhere

I made a similar comment but I definitely agree with you

That's why you never speed when it's dark or foggy, you will never know what is front of you, slow and steady, drive carefully

Stephanie is my cousin. I saw her that night at the hospital and she looked all banged up. I asked how she was doing and she asked me how I was doing instead. That made me start crying.

Today marks the 28th anniversary of when this accident happened so Dustin is 43 now and Stephanie is 47. I suppose they’re both married with children. When I saw the train hit the car, I said ”Holy moly!” It frightened the daylights out of me. That fog was thick as pea soup.

I don't know who needs to hear this but wear a seatbelt! It's not hard and it can save your life. I commented below but a seatbelt saved my life when I was T-boned less than a mile from my house. I broke my hip but I survived. If I had been ejected it would have been so much worse.

It’s been 33 years since this happened so Stephanie is 52 and Dustin is 48 now. At the time this happened, I was nine and in third grade and my brother Andrew was seven and in first grade. We were living in Fountain Hills, Arizona attending McDowell Mountain Elementary school. This also happened on Veterans Day.

30 years have passed since this happened so Dustin is 45 now and Stephanie is 49. This happened on a Monday and 17 days before Thanksgiving. It must’ve been freezing out there because it’s in Iowa. I’m sure Dustin and Stephanie said “Thank you” to those who save their lives. When I saw them get hit by the train, I was terrified because I thought that it might’ve killed them or worse paralyzed them. I’d hate for something like that to me or someone I know.
