Just a quick query - you mention removing the gear and then doing the tow. Isn't it better to keep the BCD in place during the tow and then remove once you're at the end of the tow (perhaps after having removed most of the releases except the belly release)? Surely any buoyancy is better, especially if it's a long tow back to shore. Of course if it's just a short tow to a boat, then it doesn't matter much.
