Finally!! I have been looking for what seems forever on examples of land/nesting areas that are out of the pond, verses the nesting area being above the pond. My turtles have a 8x8 stock tank that is above ground and I wanted to build their yard/nesting area on ground (lower)level. Thank you!!

Chris, I would try to use something else to hold the boards. I feel that metal bracket will get really hot really fast , which will be a problem for the turtles crossing over
@beauugarte36943 жыл бұрын
I thought the same. Perhaps cover it with repti-turf or similar.

I love the half and half turtle oasis! I’m just now discovering your channel and I love it! There are probably updates to this but I haven’t gotten there yet. I like to watch the journey as it unfolds. So for now I love the water side as is but I’d probably put two posts as anchors on the end to give it a “dock/pier” look and any fishes would love to shade under the pier.

Just some things to remember, dyed mulch can leach in the water and cause discoloration and maybe get eaten and cause internal issues, I suggest natural cypress mulch, and turtles will eat gravel which can cause impaction, I suggest using play sand or pool filter sand, and tomato plants themselves can be toxic, so keep an eye on em, other than that, it's an awesome outdoor setup, I wish the best of luck with your babies.

This is really cool. I'm a bit worried the little guys might fall off the ramp. I'd keep the rock slabs away from the ramp and build sidewalls that the guys can't scale. But this is something that I can learn from and hope to make in my own yard. I also agree with the comment below and I'd put a wire mesh over the top of the land side.

Really cool concept. It came our really nice. Something you could so different, though not necessarily better, is lose the wood ramps and go with rock instead. Build up the terrestrial side so it's closer to the top rail buy not so high that the turtles can climb out then place two large stones to either side of the passageway into the aquatic side and fill in between them with dirt as well. On the aquatic side, I'd just use big stones so they can step up/down to enter/exit the aquatic side. If you think you need a basking spot in there, you could always drop a large piece of driftwood in. It's certainly big enough to accommodate. That way you eliminate the need to replace the wooden ramps as they rot and it will look more natural. Like I said, maybe not better - just a thought for a different way to go since you asked. Keep up the cool ideas.

Your not worried about the little guys falling off the sides of the ramp on the “dry land” side? Maybe create sides like it’s a hill so they don’t accidentally fall to the ground. (That’s a high fall for such a small thing). Just a suggestion. Other than that I love it and am in the process myself of building something similar. Thanks for sharing!!

This is great. I am inspired to make something like this in my back patio. I am just concerned for predators. Do you think a screened-in patio is sufficient to keep out predators like feral cats, racoons, birds, etc?

How would someone protect their outdoor turtle pond from predators? There is lots of predators in my area and I feel like if I made one of those or something similar I would have anxiety if I left my turtles outside unsupervised. I would love to give them a place to get some fresh air and natural sunlight in the warmer months.

Hi chris, great vid as always. I would love to see you do a breeding tutorial for the apistos, as they are a great fish to breed for profit. If you find that you cant get them breeding, you should buy some little terracotta apisto huts for them and space them out around the tank, and you should have some success.

I live in the UK, I have a Turtle pond, does anyone think it would be a good idea to build a shelter with heat bulbs in? I know they get their heat from the sun but I was thinking it will be ok for my Turtle to.use if it wishes & when it's not such a hot day. Also, if I do build it shall I take it out of the pond & put it in the shelter so it knows where it is if he wants to use it?
