I'm from Elkins and contacted the father a year or so ago and informed him about having seen this episode (which I must've missed as a child--I'm old enough that I actually watched this show growing up). He couldn't have been a better guy. Seemed very thankful still.

One morning, I found my 3yr old in the yard with panties & a pair of my boots. I put a lock at the very top of the door, then found her with a chair & broom trying to unlock it. Never, ever underestimate a 3yr old.

I remember this Christmastime. On the 23rd, the Chicago area had a heavy snowfall (but very pretty, with big, fluffy flakes), and then the cold set in, with temperatures plunging well below zero (with wind chills in the -10s, if not colder). The next morning, at around daybreak, when Brittany went outside, must have been about when the front hit West Virginia.

According to a 2019 news article reflecting on this story, Brittany's mother speculated that the reason her young daughter went outside so early in the morning was to build a snowman for her grandfather, but the wind and fog (NWS records showed it was about 25 degrees outside) confused her when she tried to come home.

It’s been 28 years since this happened so Brittany is 31 now. I’m sure this is something she’ll never forget. I found out that she got picked on in high school but her sister was popular. She is now a mother of three. I’m sure they won’t make the same mistakes as she did. I wonder if Brittany told her children this story and tells them not to do what she did and that she’ll always be thankful for the doctors and paramedics who saved her life. She’s forever in their debt.

Glad to hear Brittany is doing well as an adult now. She probably doesn’t have much memory of what happened to her, but it’s possible she might remember some of it what happened. What a scary experience for everybody here. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wow well am thinking she is doing well and she is a mom now keeping busy with her children and working and being the best mom she can be I wonder if she would find this episode and see what happened to her when she was so young and nearly lost her life but she can pass this on to her children and show them the dangers of wondering off teach them.

I have a feeling Brittany wanted to try to go find Santa in the snow, which was why she went out the door like this. A big snowfall makes the whole world look different for little kids and probably makes them feel like they’re at The North Pole. It’s not much different from a young toddler who drowns while trying to swim in a pool, they’re simply curious.

Never under estimate a three year old and always keep your doors locked... Especially at night
@animemangafan19872 жыл бұрын
That was because of her parents who didn't add additional locks and bolts on top of their door after what the hell happened to Brittany who reached the doorknob on her own wandering off to her freezing death

It’s been 30 years since this happened so Brittany is 33 now. I found out that she is a mother of three now and that her sister was on the cheerleading squad in high school she was very popular but Brittany wasn’t she was always getting picked on. I’m sure that she looks back on this day and never forgets when she nearly lost her life. I sure hope she never did anything like this again or her children won’t do the same thing she did.

She was only three years old! She diden't know better than to go outside in her underwear and only her tank top! She was way too little to even realize! She can teach her kids and yeah be thankful, but not have to worry about debt, because if she were to learn it from her mother, she would of never did that, and the doors would of been locked from day one!

It was her parents who are at fault for not paying attention to their child well then after her full recovery, they finally added additional locks and bolts on top of their door so she can't get out or they don't know where the hell she's at
