Marty, as a long term subscriber to your KZbin channel, I have watched the videos where you have rescued the Hitachi excavator, the TD9 bulldozer, the David Brown tractor with the trailing blade, the Fiat tractor and the roller and you have used them all in making this video. Your knowledge and ingenuity amazes me. Machinery that others had abandoned or written off that you then resurrect and bring back to working conditions. Often just the simple things that previous owners should have done like flushing a radiator to fix an overheating problem or simple things like changing oils, filters and lubricants and put these machines back to work.

What can you say... finding (and that wasnʻt always easy!) then rescuing this old discarded gear (if you havenʻt seen them, you need to go back and look at the videosʻ of the rescues - even my non mechanical wife was impressed!) and then doing this brilliant job of making the new roadway - impressed by your ooperatorʻs skills, and then to put it together in a video that was so interesting to watch - well edited (a lot of KZbinrs who present stuff about old trucks in a certain large country could learn heaps about how not to produce boring videos by watching your well crafted efforts) brilliant angles, using sped up sections to show highlights quickly, short touches of humour with the goats and dog... but at the end of it, we are all in awe of all you achieve Marty. Dear Mr Marty T , I have watched your entire video and as a New Zealander, I must say I was most disappointed that I didn't see a single road cone employed, I would have thought 35,000 minimum should have been used, also road management, there should have been a crew of at least 10 on site, with 8 sitting in idling trucks on their phones, and 1 at either end doing the stop & go. Also I would like to bring to your attention the speed in which you completed the job, this was far to quick and organised. A job of this size should have been milked for at least 3 years and had a cost blowout of approximately 300 %. I hope there will be remedial work needed within 6 months at further cost. Please consider these few pointers before any further works. Kind regd's, Mr Needham

The Hitachi Excavator is my favorite but the Dave Brown's are a close second - the machines paid for themselves. The wedge of wood to on the t-square bubble level is a no nonsense way to grade, without an expensive laser level. Simply a great idea, the wedge reminds me of a fixed nautical sextant arc. Looks like the old road creates a circular path, kinda handy for heavy machinery to park so you don't block the main road. One thing, I thought there was a large pine on the high side of the bank, with half of root ball, If you didn't take it down, might want to check. While you lost some trees you gained some board feet of lumber and or fire wood. Wonderful Job!!!
@danielboughton36248 күн бұрын
Those drag blades are super handy as are farm tractors in general. The first road I cut I didn't have a farm tractor and had just a straight blade on an old d6. I had rented a construction tractor to break up some basalt so I trenched the up hill side and then stuck a d6 track in that trench and pushed it all flat. Now I have a smaller dozer with a 6-way so I just push the trench side to the angle and then finish the whole mess with the farm tractor. There are no rocks where I live now at all and it is flat as a pancake. Pushing anything is pretty easy but then you have to get rock from someone who ships it in and that makes roads expensive.

Nice job conveying slope, which is notoriously hard on video. Like the in-cab shots showing how much hand work the lever-style cabs are/were. 10 degrees is a 16 percent slope, but a distinct improvement over the previous one. Nice work with the back blade--I would have fired up the motor grader, but, that's more to my level of experience with one. The Results are what matter. Nice job with the roller, too. I always had a hard time convincing clients that the heavy machines were for roughing the thing in; that metaling the road wanted compaction.

since the road grade is below 10 degrees (5-8) you could've done an out-slope road to avoid an inside ditch line and side casting material. culverts and ditching would still be necessary for steeper areas. but you could have a grader return for a final shaping after you did 90% of the work.

I could watch this stuff all day everyday, I love the old heavy equipment nice and simple not overly complicated like modern machinery :D

Who would have thought the old "back blade" could be used for that? And my first job when leaving school back in 1974 was working for a David Brown dealership, in Invercargill. Amazing job, Marty. Cheers from Timaru.

Happy Christmas, Marty and family. Nice one again!! I still couldn’t envisage the final Road until it was made, no matter how much you explained, justs shows us that creatives come in all spheres of life. Love it

Beauty job there Mart, as fine a road as any could wish for. I think calling it a track does it a disservice, thats a road mate, and a fine one, all on the cutting edge of cheap. Be proud💪

Amazing what a little effort can accomplish. And doing it with what some may call antiquated equipment. LOL. Love the channel and what you do to repurpose old stuff. We are cut from the same cloth.

A project worth the time and effort on the road and the continual search for the tools to do the job. As ever, thanks for the up load and sharing your endeavours. Cheers

You should start another channel where you pick once in a while one of these old machines and restore them properly, with nice paint job, mechanical overhaul and nice interior.

Love watching your repaired gear in action. Most of the chainsaws I use for my business I have rebuilt.

Great vid Marty, love watching you do these projects, could watch them for hours (any chance of an extended directors cut?😊) your land is so different from where I am. We are rolling hills of clay/sand / chalk mix with fields and not many trees. Hope you and your family had a great Christmas. 👋🇬🇧😁
